Such A Time Parties Turning stress-free party planning into a lifetime of family memories.

Earlier this week I showed you one member of my Taskmaster production crew: my mom. ❀️

Today, I need to give a shoutout to another one...

**Doronah.**

When Mom has one of her crazy party ideas, apparently everybody gets recruited. πŸ˜‚

Doronah jumped in and helped me with filming and all the little things that had to happen behind the scenes to keep our Taskmaster tasks moving.

And there are SO MANY little things.

Getting things ready for the next contestant.
Helping with equipment.
Moving things around.
Keeping track of what needs to happen next.
And being willing to stop whatever you're doing when Mom suddenly says, "Wait! Can you help me with this?" πŸ˜‚

She didn't have to be nearly as invested in Dad's ridiculous 60th birthday production as I am.

But she showed up and helped me make it happen.

And that's one of the things I love about creating celebrations for the people we love.

The finished party may be about one person...

but the making of it becomes part of **our story**, too.

Thank you, Doronah, for being part of my slightly understaffed, definitely unpaid, Taskmaster production crew. ❀️

I couldn't have done all of this alone.

Okay, people... this is what happens AFTER "Your time starts now." πŸ˜‚

The cameras stop, the contestants leave, and somebody has to put everything back together.

And this woman has been AMAZING. ❀️
My mom didn't just come hang out while we filmed our Taskmaster tasks. She helped me set up, helped with filming, kept things moving, and then, as you can see, jumped right in to help clear the set when we were finished.

There are so many little jobs behind something like this that will never make it into the final "show."

Moving things.
Holding cameras.
Resetting props.
Cleaning up.
Carrying stuff from one place to another.

And being there when I inevitably say, "Wait! I need help with one more thing!" πŸ˜‚
This party may be my crazy idea, but I'm definitely not pulling it off by myself.
Mom, thank you for being part of my production crew and for always being willing to jump into whatever ridiculous thing I'm working on. ❀️

Because sometimes the moments that matter most are made possible by the people who matter most.

Okay, people... WE'RE FILMING. πŸŽ₯πŸ˜‚
For weeks I've been taking you behind the scenes as we've planned Jim's Taskmaster 60th birthday party.
We picked the tasks.
We wrote the instructions.
We gathered the ridiculous assortment of things we needed.
We figured out locations.
We set up cameras.
And we somehow convinced our contestants to participate. (I know!!)
And now...
YOUR TIME STARTS NOW.
I went live from our Taskmaster "set" to give you a little peek at what all that planning has turned into.
This is one of my favorite parts of creating a party. An idea that started as "Wouldn't it be fun if..." suddenly becomes something people are actually experiencing.
And THAT is what I've been talking about when I say a great party needs a PLOT.
We're not just decorating for Taskmaster.
We're doing Taskmaster.
I can't show you everything yet because our Taskmaster is still supposed to be surprised...
So, Jim, if you're reading this: KEEP SCROLLING. πŸ˜‚
The rest of you are officially part of the production team.
And I cannot WAIT until you see what our contestants did.

Okay, people...I may be a little obsessed with these. πŸ˜‚

What started as, β€œI need a lantern and can’t find one,” turned into customizable paper lantern templates you can completely make your own.

The lantern panels are Canva frames, so you can add YOUR textures, patterns, graphics, and artwork.
The windows are customizable too, so you can add photos, names, dates, scenes, or whatever fits the story you’re creating.

πŸ΄β€β˜ οΈ Pirate party prop? Yep.
πŸ•ŠοΈ Memorial lantern? Absolutely.
πŸŽ„ Christmas decoration? Already did it.
πŸŽ‰ Your completely different idea? THAT’S THE POINT.

This little 15-second video shows just how it works: customize, print, assemble, and add a battery-operated LED light.

The CLASSIC LANTERN TEMPLATE SET includes 3 styles: Crossbar, Arched, and Rectangular.

Because sometimes the decoration you need doesn't exist yet.
So you make it. ❀️

Oh, oh, oh, wait...I made something new! 😍

These started because I wanted to make a memorial lantern and couldn't find the inexpensive plastic lantern I needed locally.

Then I needed a lantern for my son's Forsaken birthday party...so I made one out of PAPER.

And then, naturally, I thought: What else could I make this into? πŸ˜‚

Introducing the CLASSIC LANTERN TEMPLATE SET!

You get 3 customizable Canva lantern templates:

πŸ΄β€β˜ οΈ Crossbar Window
πŸ•ŠοΈ Arched Window
✨ Rectangular Window

But here's my favorite part: the lanterns are built with CANVA FRAMES. Drop in your own textures and graphics to completely change the look.

The windows are customizable too! Add photos, artwork, names, dates, quotes, or graphics, then print them on vellum or clear printable sheets so your battery-operated light can glow through.

Memorial lantern. Christmas decor. Party prop. Wedding centerpiece. Whatever fits your story.

Having a funny task IDEA and having a Taskmaster TASK are apparently two very different things. πŸ˜‚

Once our final three are selected, each one needs a complete plan.

We need to decide:

πŸ“ WHERE does it happen?

πŸ“¦ What PROPS do we need?

πŸ“œ Exactly what do the INSTRUCTIONS say?

⏱️ How does TIME work?

πŸ† How will the Taskmaster JUDGE it?

πŸŽ₯ Where do the CAMERAS go?

πŸ”„ How do we RESET everything for the next contestant?

And there's another important question:

Have we accidentally written a loophole big enough for one of our friends to drive a truck through?

Actually...

Considering this is Taskmaster, maybe we WANT a few loopholes. πŸ˜‚

The goal isn't five people doing exactly the same thing.

The fun is giving five people the same problem and discovering five completely different ways of solving it.

So now we're taking our favorite ideas and turning them into actual tasks.

There's one person I DON'T want to know everything we're doing for this party.

The birthday boy. πŸ˜‚

If you've watched Taskmaster, there's a funny little illusion behind the show.

The Taskmaster is supposedly in charge.

But behind the scenes, the assistant and production team are the ones creating the tasks, setting everything up and filming the contestants' attempts.

Then the Taskmaster gets to see much of what happened later.

Which means those reactions can be GENUINE.

The judging.

The commentary.

The disbelief.

The inevitable:

"WHY WOULD YOU DO THAT?!"

πŸ˜‚

That's what I want for Jim.

He knows we're creating tasks. He's helping with parts of the production. But I'm trying to keep enough away from him that when we actually have our "show," he's not just pretending he hasn't seen everything before.

He gets to BE the Taskmaster.

Which also means...

Okay, Jim, if you're watching this, this is where you stop. πŸ˜‚

Because from here on out, I'm going to have secrets.

09/14/2026

The Taskmaster whiteboard session has happened. πŸ‘€

We found FIVE tasks we really like.

We only need THREE.

So now we're figuring out which ideas will actually work once we add locations, props, instructions, cameras, five contestants and the minor detail of needing to make the whole thing entertaining for everyone watching later. πŸ˜‚

This is where "That would be hilarious!" meets...

"Okay, but how do we actually DO it?"

Three of these are about to become real Taskmaster tasks.

And I'm not telling you which ones.

Yet.

09/10/2026

Last week I told you about the PLOT of our Taskmaster party.

This week we actually have to build it. 😳

Step one:

PICK THE TASKS.

We need four tasks for five contestants to complete individually BEFORE the party.

But we're not just looking for things that are fun to DO.

They need to be fun for everyone else to WATCH later.

They also need to be practical to film, easy enough to reset between contestants, and open-ended enough that five different people might come up with five completely different solutions.

So we're brainstorming.

A LOT. πŸ˜‚

By the end of this week, I want our four tasks chosen and a plan for how we're going to pull each one off.

The Taskmaster party is officially moving from "Wouldn't this be fun?" to...

"Okay. How are we actually going to do this?"

Yesterday we started choosing our Taskmaster tasks.

But coming up with a funny idea is only the beginning.

Now I have to ask:

πŸ“œ What exactly do the instructions say?

⏱️ Is there a time limit?

πŸ“¦ What materials do they need?

πŸ“ Where will we film it?

πŸŽ₯ Where does the camera need to be?

πŸ”„ How do we reset everything for the next contestant?

πŸ€” And most importantly...

Is there enough wiggle room in the instructions for someone to do something we NEVER expected? And, if anyone will find a unique way to complete a task, it will be my son...he's super creative!

Because that's where a lot of the fun comes from.

Same instructions.

Five different people.

Five completely different brains trying to figure out what on earth we're asking them to do. πŸ˜‚

This is the point where a TASK IDEA starts becoming an actual TASK.
