For most of his life, Zack Malone’s stage was the baseball diamond. However, the stress of collegiate athletics eventually pushed him away from the game he loved. Little did he know that stepping out of the dugout would lead him straight into the spotlight!

Encouraged by a Jessup Theatre alumni and friend, Zack auditioned for The Scarlet Pimpernel and quickly found his true calling. His athletic background became an unexpected advantage, bringing discipline and mental toughness to his new craft. He went on to star in numerous productions, ultimately closing out his college career in the lead role of Jack Kelly in Newsies.

"While athletics may have prepared Malone for his shift to pursue theatre, it was the mentors he found at Jessup that made the most impact," he shared. "My theatre professors not only got to know me and learn more about my specific story, they taught me invaluable lessons."

The start of a new school year always brings a sense of anticipation, and for Jim Valentine, lead pastor at American River Community Church, it means welcoming a new group of Jessup students into his congregation.

Our church partners play a vital role in shaping the next generation of Christian leaders. At ARCC, Jessup students are doing more than just observing. They are actively helping with Vacation Bible School, organizing community events and even preaching on Sunday mornings! In return, Valentine has found an invaluable network of support, wisdom and guidance through our community of ministry leaders.

As our campus fills with students this fall, we are so thankful for local churches that embrace them, mentor them and give them a place to grow in their faith and utilize their God-given gifts.

Jessup’s undergraduate kinesiology program has reached a major milestone! Our strength and conditioning concentration officially earned full initial accreditation from the Council on Accreditation of Strength and Conditioning Education (CASCE).

This five-year accreditation represents the highest level of recognition in the field. With new industry requirements taking effect in 2030, Jessup graduates are uniquely positioned at the forefront of the profession. Whether they are pursuing careers as collegiate strength coaches, sports performance specialists or athletic development professionals, our students are equipped for success.

"It validates the hard work of our faculty and demonstrates our commitment to preparing graduates for successful careers in the strength and conditioning profession," said Associate Professor of Kinesiology Becka Ussery.

Remember those late-night dorm chats and spontaneous campus events? 💙

For Jett, moving on campus after two years of commuting changed everything. Not only did it save him gas money, but it opened the door to deeper friendships, personal growth and learning true independence (like how not to be a messy roommate!). He even found that living on campus improved his relationship with his family back home, making the time they spent together so much more special and intentional.

"When I moved to the United States, my entire life had to be rebuilt from the ground up," said Jessup biomed major Osasumwen James Idemudia. "That transition forced me to grow quickly and shaped the kind of leader I’ve become today."

Originally from Nigeria, James knows what it takes to navigate a new culture. As our lead coordinator for International Student Support and Cultural Events, he helps fellow students navigate academics, find resources and build an amazing community. Recognizing a major hurdle for his classmates, he created a campus ride-share program from scratch.

We can't wait to see James achieve his dream of becoming a physician and bringing dignified healthcare to underserved communities.
