Today, Richmond grieves the loss of one of its own.

D’Angelo’s voice, artistry, and authenticity reshaped the sound of modern music. Defining and reinventing the era of soul with a sound that was both timeless and deeply human. His impact will continue to be felt in the artists he inspired, the stories he told, and the spirit he carried from right here in Richmond.

Earlier this season, we were honored to host a tribute to D’Angelo at Dogwood Dell , a celebration of his extraordinary legacy and the mark he left on our city’s culture. His music reminded us that Richmond’s creative spirit reaches far beyond its borders.

As we remember him, may we also remember to celebrate our artists while they’re here, to lift them up, support their journeys, and let them know how much their voices mean to this community.

Thank you, D’Angelo, for giving Richmond its rhythm and the world a little more soul. 🕊️❤️

⚠️ Weather Update – Show Canceled ⚠️

Due to the forecast of thunderstorms moving into Richmond this evening, we must cancel tonight’s 8 PM performance at Dogwood Dell.

Storm activity is expected to disrupt sound check and setup earlier in the day, and conditions are projected to worsen right at showtime.

This decision was made with the safety of our audience, performers, and staff as our top priority.

Sorry !

With the current forecast, we are canceling tonight’s Dell performance.

This past Saturday, more than 2,400 people filled Dogwood Dell for an unforgettable evening, Shagg Carpet lit up the stage with their first-ever Dell performance and RVA Pro Wrestling delivered a show full of athleticism, storytelling, humor, and heart.

With high-flying moves, heavy hits, and the kind of drama that makes you jump out of your seat, the energy was electric. From families with homemade signs to first-time visitors discovering the Festival of the Arts, it was a night of creativity and community that shows why these free events matter so much to Richmond’s cultural life.

Thank you to everyone who came out to celebrate and make this night one for the books.

On Friday September 5th at Dogwood Dell, the stage comes alive with Unheard-of Practices 5: A Celebration of Dance and Music! 🎶💃

Featuring incredible performances by Richmond Urban Dance, The Concert Ballet of Virginia, and Starr Foster Dance, each company has created original choreography set to live music by Rattlemouth. Every song sparks a different story through movement and sound.
