Welcome New Head Chef to the NC Art Museum Café!

Chef Matt’s love for food began around the table with his large Italian New York family, where Sunday dinners became cherished traditions. In fact, one of the current café’s menu items, the Cantaloupe Carpaccio, is directly inspired by a dish shared during those family gatherings.

After attending culinary school in New York and refining his craft in some of the city’s elite restaurants, Chef Matt moved to Miami to continue his career at one of the area’s most prestigious dining destinations. In 2009, he and his wife relocated to the Raleigh area, where they quickly fell in love with the community and chose to put down roots while raising their daughter and son.

Chef Matt Griffith joins the NCMA Café with a passion for thoughtful hospitality and creating meals that feel both approachable and inspired. He views the café as an extension of the museum experience; a place where food can spark conversation and creativity just like art does.

This week we will get a sneak peek at some of the new menu items that as delicious as they are beautiful. Today we are showcasing the Chickpea Falafel! Inspired by his time in New York, Chef Matt has taken this late night snack and elevated it to a work of art 🎨

Our Garden Bites Tour at brought together beautiful trails, fascinating stories, buzzing pollinators, and delicious stops along the way. Bonus points for the popcorn from that had guests coming back for more!

We had a great time at the Exhibit After Hours: Knowing The West 🤠

We always love a grand opening, but this one was especially fun! It had a whiskey tasting, arts and crafts, specialty cocktails, screen printing, and a special menu at the NCMA Cafe for dinner! And of course, the exhibit was amazing!
