This is what I dreamed of. 🤍

Feeling especially grateful tonight to sit here, take in this view, and celebrate 26 years of marriage over a simple meal made up of some of our favorites—coq au vin, green beans and potatoes fresh from the garden, and a glass of Lambrusco.

Nothing extravagant. Just good food, a beautiful summer evening, and the person I’ve shared the last 26 years with.

Late summer is made for gathering outdoors and dining alfresco.

Long tables beneath the trees. Seasonal food. Armfuls of flowers. And that beautiful golden August light that makes you want to linger just a little longer.

There’s something special about a gathering that feels completely connected to its time and place; where the flowers, tablescape and surrounding landscape come together to capture a moment in the season.

For this late-summer dinner, abundant goldenrod brought the surrounding fields to the table, while warm amber glass, natural textures and layers of pattern created a setting that felt relaxed, generous and unmistakably August.

This is what I love about floral and event design: creating more than something beautiful to look at. It’s about creating an atmosphere, a vibe, a sense of place and a setting that invites people to gather, connect and stay awhile.

This is what can happen when you leave your garden unattended for a week when there are heavy rains, followed by a heat wave.

I guess there will be lots of zucchini, bread in my future. And perhaps some relish made from the cucumbers. What else can I make with large zucchini? Any ideas?

Floral event design is about so much more than centerpieces and bouquets.

It’s about creating a feeling. A mood. A story.

The flowers are just one layer. Plants add life and texture. Vintage pieces bring history. Thoughtfully chosen decor creates warmth and invites people to linger. When all of those elements come together, they transform a space into an experience.

This baby shower was especially meaningful because it was created for my sweet niece. Working alongside family made every detail even more special, and the heirloom pieces (the bassinet, high chair, and treasured family keepsakes) brought a depth and sentiment that simply can’t be purchased. They reminded us that the most beautiful designs are the ones filled with love and memories.

Flowers can make a space beautiful.
But it’s the layers, the stories, and the people behind them that make it unforgettable.
