A wedding ceremony does not have to be long to be meaningful.
Yesterday morning was a great reminder of that.
Shawn and Jessica’s ceremony was simple, personal, and true to them — and they even had a race to run afterward, which made the whole morning feel even more like their day.
Behind the scenes, that is always the goal when I write or officiate a ceremony:
Not to make it bigger than it needs to be.
Not to force it into a cookie-cutter script.
Not to make the moment feel overly formal if that is not the couple.
The goal is to create a ceremony that fits the people standing there.
Sometimes that means heartfelt and traditional.
Sometimes it means short, sweet, and simple.
Sometimes it means a few personal details that make everyone smile.
However it looks, the ceremony should still feel like it belongs to the couple.
That is what Ever After Vows is all about.
