This past Friday on the PROGRUM we honored the once-in-a-lifetime genius of Marvin Pentz Gaye Jr. with a mere seven-hour tribute on his heavenly 87th. I’m being facetious with “mere” because we could have rocked all week for Mr. Gaye. With such an expansive catalog record during his short life, we traversed through his early days with Tammi up until his untimely passing one day shy of his 45th in ‘84. Even played the demo version of “Let’s Get It On”, which was originally recorded as a political call to action song à la “What’s Going On”, but the OG writer (Ed Townsend) wasn’t having it & protested that it be switched back to a tune about love & s*x. Hence the version we have today. Of course we had to close out with my all-time-favorite Marvin track “I Want You” w/ the masterful James Garson (whom we just lost) on the sticks. Marvin even dabbled a bit on with the drum kit too:) IFKYK. Thank you to all that spent the Friday workday with us in pure musical bliss. Can’t think of a better way to aid in the day Flying By (In The Friendly Sky). Close enough. 😂❤️
