💰 About 1 in 7 Americans has unclaimed money sitting in a government database, and every official search is free.

A national multi-state tool searches most state unclaimed property programs at once, covering old bank accounts, uncashed checks, and insurance payouts.

Matured but uncashed US savings bonds total roughly $32 billion, and since the Treasury's own search tool shut down in September 2025, those searches now run through your state's unclaimed property office.

The Department of Labor launched a federal lost-and-found for missing 401(k)s and pensions in December 2024, and the federal pension insurer separately holds over $300 million for more than 80,000 people from closed plans.

The IRS gives you only 3 years to file a return and claim a refund, and roughly $1 billion goes unclaimed every year before it becomes the Treasury's permanently.

HUD is holding more than $400 million in FHA mortgage insurance refunds for borrowers who paid an upfront premium and later ended the loan early.

Search the names of deceased parents and relatives too, because as an heir you can often claim funds left in their name.

The one rule that protects you: never pay a "finder" to do this, since they search the same free public sites and can take a large cut of what is yours.
