Bread & Roses August Grantee Spotlight 🌹

Each month Underground Arts donates a portion of our ticket sales to Bread & Roses Community Fund—the Philadelphia region’s leading funder of grassroots organizing for racial, social, and economic justice.
Brewerytown Sharswood Neighborhood Coalition is a resident-led grassroots group organizing community members in North Philly neighborhoods to ensure equitable access to food security, libraries, and play areas, and other social infrastructure.
BSNC was instrumental in saving the historic Cecil B. Moore library. In response to a proposal to co-locate the library with a private housing development, BSNC organized neighbors and helped win an additional $8.3 million (for a total of $10.2 million) commitment from the city to rebuild the library as a public resource. Currently, they are holding the city accountable to its pledge to keep the educational and cultural legacy of the library alive.
