WEEKLY FOUNDATION: WHAT IS A PRECEPT?

Definition of Precept
A precept is an authoritative instruction, command, principle, or rule given as a standard for conduct and action.
From a Kingdom perspective:
A PRECEPT IS A GOD-ESTABLISHED TRUTH OR INSTRUCTION UPON WHICH WE BUILD.

Isaiah 28:10 says:

"For precept must be upon precept, precept upon precept; line upon line, line upon line; here a little, and there a little."

A precept gives us more than information.
A precept gives us something to build upon.
God does not normally develop mature people, ministries, families, or Kingdom works instantaneously.
He builds.

Precept upon precept. Line upon line.
Truth upon truth. Instruction upon instruction.
Here a little. There a little.

Therefore: YOU ARE BUILT!

What you see today is the result of something being placed upon something else.
And God is still building.

Today's Building Principle

GOD BUILDS ACCORDING TO ORDER.

God does not operate randomly.

He has principles.

He has patterns.

He has order.

He has timing.

He has process.

Isaiah gives us the pattern:

PRECEPT UPON PRECEPT.
LINE UPON LINE.
HERE A LITTLE.
THERE A LITTLE.

Sometimes we want God to give us the entire building when He is giving us the next brick.

We want the whole blueprint when God is saying:

"Obey the instruction I have already given you."

The question is not merely:

"God, what are You building?"

The question is:

"God, what are You building in ME so I can participate in what You are building?"
