The American Sonnet: Form and Freedom 🇺🇸
�Explore the evolution of the American sonnet, from its European roots to the subversive innovations of contemporary poets. We’ll examine structure, the volta, and the thematic possibilities of the sonnet while writing our own poems that challenge and expand the form. 📝

Jordan Buggs is a poet and photographer whose work explores memory, language, and Black cultural identity. His sonnets weave contemporary themes with formal structures, creating a bridge between tradition and innovation. 🌉

Workshop: Give Your Poems A Home (The Online Journal Edition)! 🏠

So you've got your poems polished and ready for publishing. What’s the next step? It's time to find your poems a home! Come learn about the editorial process at an online literary journal and what to expect when you go through the submission process. We will also learn about where to send a submission and explore a number of valuable online resources. We will also work on a NEW poem with a specific journal in mind! 💻

Rob Sturma is a poet and editor who has been involved with the Red Dirt Poets since 2010 and the LP Writer's Co-op since about five minutes ago. He curated and edited two print poetry anthologies, AIM FOR THE HEAD and MULTIVERSE, and was the founder and editor-in-chief of online lit journal FreezeRay Poetry for eight years and 22 issues. His current collection of poems HEAD V HEART is available from Moon Tide Press and his CYOA poetry zine YOU ARE DOOMED is available from his backpack. 📚

Join us Friday, May 2 at Oklahoma Shakespeare during First Fridays in the Paseo for a community-wide open mic night. All poets/musicians/comics/performers welcome.
Arrive early, beginning at 6:00pm for a social hour near The Mermaid Bar--grab a drink or a snack and mingle with fellow creative humans.
The open mic will begin at 7:00pm, and honestly how much time you get will largely depend on how many people come, so prepare anything from a 3-6 minute set, and we will roll with it.
We hope to see you there!
