The Key Room is a dedicated event venue for business meetings, private parties and nonprofit events. Our staff can provides on-site catering with fresh and delicious food from coffee and pastries to a full-service seated banquet. Join us in the Community Teaching Kitchen on Saturday, February 21st for our Sourdough 101 hands-on class, where you’ll learn the fundamentals of sourdough—from caring for a starter to shaping, baking, and understanding that perfect crust and crumb.

Guests will make and take home 1 loaf of class-baked sourdough bread, chocolate chip cookies made with sourdough and a mini-kit with starter and guidance for baking at home.

In this deep-dive class, you'll cook alongside Chef Matt, a passionate mushroom forager, to explore cooking with California’s winter mushrooms. You’ll cook with Black Trumpet, Hedgehog and Yellowfoot mushrooms, taking home three delicious recipes: two that highlight a single mushroom’s unique flavor and one that blends all three into a harmonious dish. Matt will share his top tips on foraging, flavor and technique while creating and sharing unforgettable mushroom dishes.

Warm the kitchen and your soul in our Ukrainian Baking hands-on class with Chef on Friday, January 30th. Chef Anna will guide you step-by-step through making a Ukrainian Honey Cake, crafting tender layers of honey biscuit, and finishing them with a rich frosting made with sweet and tangy sour cream. Along the way, she'll share her passion for Ukrainian and Eastern European flavors, showing how timeless recipes can be reimagined with contemporary techniques. Each guest will create and take home a finished honey cake!

Meet Chef Matt! Working in kitchens since the age of 15, Chef Matt Shapiro advanced from dishwasher to chef in his home state of New York. He arrived in the North Bay after leading positions for restaurants on the East Coast and in San Francisco. In 2014, Chef Matt joined Hog Island Oyster Co. as chef at Tony’s Seafood in West Marin. Always attentive to the quality of ingredients, he played an integral role at Hog Island in creating a sustainable sourcing plan. Chef Matt joined our team as a Chef Instructor, bringing leadership skills and a breadth of experience that led to his appointment as Director of Training and Culinary Operations at Homeward Bound of Marin. His role weaves together the joy of providing outstanding food and the culture of learning in our kitchens.
