Harvestworks is thrilled to celebrate its 50th anniversary with a special screening of Joan Jonas’s Volcano Saga at on Tuesday, June 9.

Joan Jonas has had a longstanding relationship with Harvestworks, collaborating with the organization on numerous occasions throughout her career. One particularly significant collaboration was Volcano Saga (1989), for which Jonas worked closely with Brenda Hutchinson at Harvestworks’ Studio PASS, developing the sound for the piece.

We are incredibly fortunate to have this important work in the Harvestworks archive and even more grateful that Joan Jonas has generously agreed to present this screening as part of our 50th anniversary celebration curated by .nyc

Join us at e-flux on Tuesday to experience this remarkable work and celebrate five decades of artist-driven innovation and experimentation.

A few tickets remain, link in bio!

We are beyond excited to begin celebrating 50 years of Harvestworks with our first anniversary event at

Over the past five decades, hundreds of incredible artists have participated in Harvestworks residencies and the Studio PASS program, helping shape the history of media and sound art. From this rich legacy, e-flux Performance Curator Sanna Almajedi .nyc thoughtfully selected a screening of Volcano Saga by Joan Jonas, alongside a performance by current Harvestworks resident Justin Allen, and sharing selected work from each decade.

The evening will also feature a conversation with Harvestworks Interim Director Ivana Dama .dama Sanna Almajedi .nyc and Toni Dove who was a Harvestworks resident in 1989 and 1990. Together, they will reflect on the many decades represented by Harvestworks’ 661 resident artists and explore some of the remarkable artworks, experiments, and ideas that emerged from the organization over the last 50 years.
