QUESTIONS:
DESIRE ON ICE
Sometimes, these career retrospectives can seem like a bookmark, an exclamation mark, not so much putting down a mark for now or the future, but closing the book. What do you think?
- Desire On Ice is a bookmark already hurled in the future.
How easy was it to get such a cavalcade of stars together for this? How long did it take to get together? I think when we last connected you were in Thailand, with your m/bike. Where are you now and how did that all work with making a record?
- Responses to invitations seemed to come in with little hesitation. After the initial sessions held at Sam Phillips Recording Service in Memphis, the guests' remote sessions posed challenges for our producer, Mario Monterosso. The caliber of guest participants' performance was sterling as a silver bullet, but their wildly disparate recording environments had to reckoned with in the mixing phase. Ultimately, the engineering prowess of Scott Bomar, studio manager & SMPTE Academy Award winner, prevailed – in spite of the mixing board at Phillips' studio, well known as infested with restless errant ghosts. After 18 months flogging the project, the masters were finally dispatched to Org Music, our label home in LA.
Will you be appearing in England any time soon?
- My movie will be! The Urania Trilogy of intrigue films now, in its definitive form as one feature movie, will return to London on Friday the 28th of November at The Horse Hospital cinema on Russell Sq. This is the underground space forged by the late Roger K. Burton & his collective, who opened their doors to Part I of the film troika back in 2011.
My own appearance on this event is still up in the air. Under the present Starmer regime, risk of detention looms large for artists who speak out publicly against GENOCIDE in Gaza, and who proclaim support for Palestine Action. Especially for unruly Americans, and I'm one of those. On the other hand, I am not convinced my detention would serve to mitigate the slaughter and even obliquely convince the Zionists to put down their weapons
