The Coos County Rabbit and Cavy Barn is honored to announce that we have been awarded a $12,000 grant from the Three Rivers Foundation to purchase the remaining cages needed in our barn. Thanks to the generosity of the Three Rivers Foundation we are able to provide safe and secure housing for rabbit exhibits while supporting our amazing youth in our 4-H organization. We are truly appreciative of this amazing gift and cannot say thank you enough.

EXCITING NEWS! We have ordered our first batch of new cages! We still have a long way to go with fundraising but thanks to the efforts of Critters & Crafts 4-H members, we were able to order 36 cages which provides us an additional 98 holes! We will continue to raise funds via our cage-a-thon and purchase new cages until all cages have been replaced. Please continue to share and support our efforts! We greatly appreciate it!!!

Fair is just around the corner! Be sure to get your open entries in! This year is going to be amazing!

Wow! Sorry for not posting sooner! It's been a busy few months. The 2021-22 Fair was AWESOME! It was so nice to have a return to pre-pandemic activities and to see all the animals and crafts on exhibit. We had a small showing this year but for my first fair as superintendent it was perfect for getting my feet wet. We had a blast with our judge Mary Whitney and even held an adult showmanship class (I think this may have to be something we do each year). The barn looked fantastic for all the visitors and we are still doing more. One of our biggest endeavors this year will be getting new cages. We are launching our Coos County Fair Rabbit Barn Cage-a-Thon to raise funds for the 196 cages we need to fill our barn. The Cage-a-Thon will offer multi-level sponsorships to community members! If you are interested in sponsoring a cage, please let me know. I am so excited to see what the next year holds for our Coos County Fair Rabbit Barn and hope to see many of you at next year's fair!

We need the rabbit community’s help on locating six stolen rabbits from a local 4-H’ers herd. Sometime between 4 pm Friday, February 26th and 9 am Saturday, February 27th, three black Havana rabbits (1 buck, 2 does) and 3 white meat rabbits (1 New Zealand buck, 2 Californian does) were stolen from 1431 Central Ave in Coos Bay, OR. Sadly. This was deliberate and intentional. The individuals walked away with the best the 4-H’er has in her barn. A police report has been filed and the local 4-H extension office has been notified. We are posting the theft to all local and state rabbit groups and local and state ARBA clubs in hopes that someone might be able to help us out. This has devastated the 4-H owner. If you know someone who has suddenly acquired rabbits fitting these descriptions, please contact myself or the Coos Bay Police Department. The 4-H’er is an upstanding child who serves as a county and state 4-H ambassador as well as a Youth ARBA breeder. She loves her rabbits very much and just wants their safe return. If the animals are returned to the residence, no questions will be asked, and charges will be dropped. If this does not occur, the individuals responsible will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. We are in the process of reviewing local surveillance videos and we will find out who do this.

Good morning everyone! It’s been awhile since I posted about renovation but we have been hard at work! It took a couple work sessions but the barn has been completely prepped for painting. We have removed the old rusted wire from all of the cage stands, made repairs to damaged cage stands and pressure washed everything several times. Our beloved Rabbit Barn Renovation is slowly coming together. As restrictions lift in the near future, we will begin organizing larger work parties. Thank you to everyone for the continued support. We are so grateful!

It has been a long time since we posted about our rabbit barn renovation. COVID-19 put a bit of a damper on our work at the rabbit barn but we were able to do some behind the scenes work. One of which was applying for a grant through 4-H. We were fortunate enough to be selected and received enough funds to replace ALL THE WIRE IN THE RABBIT BARN. We plan on resuming work in the next few days and are so excited to get underway!

Hello, everyone! I just wanted to give everyone an update on the Rabbit Barn Renovation. We have made headway on prepping the barn with pressure washing and tearing down the perimeter cage stands. However, in light of all that is happening and the current executive orders in place, our work at the barn has been placed on paused, BUT, we plan to hit it full-force once we can all congregate again. We will continue to map out renovation plans and fund raise. We still have several large ticket items to acquire such as wire, cages, and bleachers. We have been fortunate to raise close to $1500 dollars between local donations and our Facebook fundraiser. The money raised has allowed us to purchase paint and will allow us to purchase about half of the wire needed for our new cage stands. Thanks to donations from Roseburg Forest Products and Southport Lumber, we have the lumber necessary to build cage stands, storage, show tables, and feed decks. Cascade Farm & Outdoor have provided us with much needed cleaning equipment, garbage cans for feed, hoses and nozzles. We are so thankful for all the support we have received. If you would like to help with our continued efforts, please feel free to contact us! Keep an eye out for updates and hopefully, upcoming work parties.
