Meet the westFEST New Works Festival artists: Arc (from Billings, MT)

One of our favorite things is to celebrate and collaborate with dancers from across the region... but even better if they're from across the state! We're happy to host ARC: A Montana Dance Collective's first tour out of Billings, MT! Come see them perform "The Grand Ball: Get on the Court" (Aug 16).

Arc: a Montana Dance Collective (“Arc”) | is a collaboratively led non-profit dance company based in Billings, MT. Arc performs work that spans multiple genres but primarily focuses on contemporary modern movement. Arc is comprised of professionally trained dancers who also work as community-minded lawyers, teachers, business owners, PAs and physicians, photographers, engineers, biomechanists, and mothers – a collection of women, united in a passion for all things dance.

ARC artists include:

Kate Blakeslee, Morgan Dake, Ricki Feeley, Heather Gale, Hannah Haidle, Kristie Martin, Maribel Parman, Leigh Schanfein, Kelsey Small, Chateal Stapler, Christina Taylor, Heather Webster

Meet the westFEST Intensive Guest Artists: Francesca Romo and Michaela Ellingson

's creative team are IN HOUSE this week teaching and setting work on westFEST Intensive participants AND performing in "Ignite" (Aug 15 & 16). We feel incredibly lucky to have these creative forces of nature collaborating with professional dancers from Missoula and around the region!

FRANCESCA ROMO (CDW Associate Artistic Director and Dancer) was born in London and knew she wanted to dance early in life. After graduating from the Royal Ballet School and London Contemporary Dance School, she danced for The Richard Alston Dance Company from 2003-2006. While on tour, she fell in love with the U.S., and moved to New York to dance with the Sean Curran Dance company from 2006-2007

She then went on to Co-found the Gallim Dance Company in 2007 where she was Associate Director until 2014. Gallim works have been presented by leading institutions and festivals around the world including , City Center, The Joyce, and Jacob’s Pillow, BAM, Théâtre National de Chaillot, Teatre Grec of Barcelona, Teatro Nacional de Panamá, DanceHouse Vancouver, Spoleto Festival, and others.

MICHAELA ELLINGSON is a dancer, choreographer, educator and outdoor enthusiast. She is from and is currently based in Jackson, Wyoming. She received her BFA in dance from SUNY Purchase and MA from London Contemporary Dance School. In London she danced with EDge Postgraduate Company and also performed with multi-disciplinary companies Bittersuite and Flavour & Some. She is a member of Contemporary Dance Wyoming and has performed work by Babs Case, Francesca Romo, Gina Patterson, Lauren Edson, Andrea Miller, Robyn Mineko Wiliams and Luke Dakota Zender. She is a guest artist with David Dorfman Dance.

Contemporary Dance Wyoming | (Jackson, WY) returns to perform in Ignite, the opening performances of westFEST New Works Festival 2025. The show also includes new works by westFEST Intensive participants, choreographed by Fran Romo and Rachel Oliver Young.

Performers for this show include Bare Bait Dance Company, ARC company dancers (Billings, MT), and professional dancers from Bozeman, Boise, and more!

They say the only constant in life is CHANGE.
But that doesn't mean we have to like it.
A farewell we never wanted to see...

A note from Kelly Bouma, Westside Theater's Managing Director:

"With deep gratitude, I’m stepping away from my role at Westside Theater, proud to have been part of its transformation with Bare Bait Dance at the helm. Since we took over the space in late 2021, I’ve had the privilege of contributing to incredible productions—from BBD’s company performances and the launch of westFEST to hosting remarkable guest and touring performances. A true career highlight was producing Hedwig and the Angry Inch.

Working alongside Joy to bring community productions to life and performing in 40 Over 40 and abunDANCE has been nothing short of a dream come true. While I won’t be behind the scenes anymore, I won’t be a stranger. You’ll still find me on the dance floor—taking classes, joining dance parties, and (hopefully) stepping into next year’s community show.

Above all, I’m honored to have carried and passed the torch on this incredible space that has become a vibrant hub for dance in Missoula. I look forward to what’s ahead—for me, for Westside, and for this thriving dance community."
