Over the past 15 years of photographing weddings, we’ve noticed a clear pattern: The fewer times couples need to change locations on their day, the less rushed more relaxed they seem to be. And this comes down to one of the first decisions they usually make when planning - the venue.⁠

This engagement session was just steps away from where this couple will tie the knot at Nicollet Island Pavilion—where couples commonly get ready at the hotel across the street, and they can leave their stuff without worry. They don't need double checks and final sweeps and it's close by if they need something they forgot. It's a great example of how a walkable location can calm the day.⁠

Every time you (and your wedding party) need to pack up, drive, unload, park, and regroup at a new location, it adds stress and chips away at your time and energy. We see it in how the day flows—and in how people feel.⁠

That transition time? It could be spent greeting guests, relaxing for a moment, or just soaking in the day together.⁠

There are always exceptions, some people pack light and move easily, but this is a trend we’ve observed again and again.⁠

There’s something magical about weddings—especially when they involve pickled herring, mashed potatoes, and laughter that echoes across the rolling countryside of Redeemed Farm. Cortney and Brad’s wedding day was one for the books, blending heartfelt moments with humor and charm.

Brad kicked things off with a story about his initiation into Cortney’s family, involving some culinary combinations and serious testing of his fortitude. “I knew I was being tested to join the family,” he quipped, recalling his first Thanksgiving with them. Spoiler alert: he passed with flying colors.

Cortney, described as someone who “always knew what she wanted,” radiated joy throughout the day. Her sister shared how Cortney’s enthusiasm for Brad was unmistakable from the start, “She was never quiet about him—always smiling when she spoke his name.” Brad’s love for Cortney was just as evident, as he vowed not only to cherish her but also to protect her from every spider they’d encounter in their life together.

Their vows were as unique as they were touching. “I promise to be your partner in every sense of the word,” said Cortney, balancing humor and sincerity with ease. Meanwhile, Brad’s promise to “love and cherish” his bride “till death parts us” was as classic as it was heartfelt.

The celebration at Redeemed Farm provided the perfect backdrop. Family and friends toasted to their future, offering advice, laughter, and a few tears. “If she gives you a quiet stare, Brad, find an alternative option,” her maid of honor jokingly advised. By the end of the evening, it was clear this was more than a wedding—it was a joyous beginning to a lifetime of love and adventure.

Cortney and Brad: may your marriage be as rich with flavor as your family traditions and as steadfast as your love – congratulations!
