Hi Friends!
On Saturday, January 31st, I am setting out on a backcountry skiing fundraiser: The Camel’s Hump Challenge. The purpose of this event is to raise awareness and funds for the Vermont Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association.
My team is named “Team Sloatman.” to honor the memory of my mom, Roberta, who had a long term battle with dementia. And also to honor her siblings who are facing their own challenges with dementia. In a wider scope, it’s also to honor the many other friends and family who are dealing with Alzheimer’s and dementia, both directly and indirectly.
I will be skiing on the beautiful backcountry ski trails that circumnavigate Camel’s Hump in northern Vermont, which is a perfect event to honor my mom and her family as they were outdoor enthusiasts, and my mom, in particular, loved to ski.
As a first timer, I am excited and a little nervous since it’s a full day of unassisted skiing on some remote trails. I’ll be skiing with my nephew, Cal Hale, and my Cousin David Sloatman. I’ve been skiing for many years with them both, and I am proud to say that I think I had a hand in turning Cal into a ski enthusiast!
As a team, we are hoping to raise funds for the Vermont Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association and would be grateful for any size contributions to the link below. The Alzheimer’s Association is a not for profit 501(c)(3) organization so your donations are tax deductible.
Please reach out of you have any questions, and thanks in advance!
The Alzheimer's Association leads the way to end Alzheimer's and all other dementia — by accelerating global research, driving risk reduction and early detection, and maximizing quality care and support.
