Pruyn House

Pruyn House Pruyn House, a beautifully restored home situated on 5½ acres in the hamlet of Newtonville, Town of Colonie, has a connection to the Dutch heritage of NY.

The Friends of Pruyn House is a corporation which was chartered by the New York State Board of Regents in 1983. The organization is tax exempt under federal and state law. The mission of the Friends of Pruyn House, in partnership with the Town of Colonie, is to restore and conserve the Pruyn House Complex as an educational, cultural and social center. The Friends of Pruyn House, through the Board

of Trustees and staff, manage the Complex. The Friends plan and fund all programming, special events, insurance, newsletters, and many improvements and furnishings for the Complex. Funds are raised through a membership program, rentals, grants, and fundraising events. The Town of Colonie contributes funding for basic services, utilities, salaries, and maintenance of the grounds.

FOOD DRIVE to support Shaker Junior High School -
Please drop off items (listed below) at 562 Loudon Road (Rt. 9) on Tuesday, October 21st between 10:00am - 12:00pm.

Teachers began this project more than 10 years ago, recognizing that basic needs must be met for students to be ready to learn.

Items needed:
Individually wrapped snacks (granola bars, chips, raisins, fruit snacks, crackers, etc.)
Cereal
Pasta
Pasta sauce in cans
Veggies in cans
Peanut butter
Sunflower butter
Jelly
Fruit
Soup
Rice, 1-2 lb bags
Mac n cheese
Ravioli in cans
Ramen
Tuna

Please remember, these items must be non-perishable and sized to fit in backpacks. No glass please.

Meet Eliza Schuyler, daughter of Phillip Schuyler and celebrated wife of Alexander Hamilton. Eileen will tell the tale of one of our fascinating founding mothers through stories and songs with her program, “Albany Girl, American Woman.” Eileen appeared previously at the Pruyn House in her popular program, “Voice of the Mountains: Jean Robert Foster.” She has also performed at Wiawaka, Union College, Charlton Historical Society, Tannery Pond Community Center among many other venues.

Phyllis Chapman
Did you know Eleanor Roosevelt spent several years in Albany while her husband Franklin served first as a senator, later as the 44th Governor of New York? Join us as Pruyn House favorite Phyllis Chapman tells Eleanor’s stories and tales living in Albany as a young wife, mother, first lady, activist, and humanitarian. Phyllis’ reenacting of Eleanor’s story is compelling and entertaining and she is a “regular” at the Pruyn House. She has played the “school marm” during Old-Fashioned Sundays and previously presented a fascinating history of Victorian fashion.

Leonard Bernstein Songbook
Roseanne Hargrave and Michael Clement
Roseanne Hargrave, soprano and Michael Clement, pianist will present a delightful concert featuring the music of the Leonard Bernstein songbook.
Roseanne performs music from Oratorio and Opera to Jazz and Broadway. Past musical engagements have included The Mendelssohn Club, Troy Savings Bank Music Hall, Proctor’s Theater, among many local venues. She performs benefit concerts throughout the Capital region and enjoys collaborating with other musicians.
Michael is a renowned pianist soloist and is also known for his brilliant work as an accompanist, working with many singers in a variety of settings. He is the accompanist for the Mendelssohn Club and is known for his keyboard technique and thoughtful, inspired musical interpretation.

You are cordially invited to attend our 41st annual Old-Fashioned Sunday on September 7th, from noon - 4:00pm. This is a free event for the community! The Colonie Town Bands will be performing, and we have some wonderful demonstrations: sheep shearer, blacksmith, tinsmith, tintype photography, weaving and spinning, tole painting, basket weaving and the 125th Regiment. Bring some shopping money - food is available from the Kiwanis grill, Joe's Dough 2 Go Pizza, Vandor's Ice Cream, Friends of Pruyn House Harvest Table and popcorn!

We will also feature many wonderful children's activities: A School Marm in the Verdoy Schoolhouse, a magician, a wizard, caricatures, face-painting, pony rides and baby animals.

Many local vendors will be here including: George's Market, Blue Creek Garden Club, Fort Orange Garden Club, Mort's Maple Syrup, Claudia Russell's Jams, Cositas by Luz, Martha's Treasures and Antique Paper & Postcards.

Come make new friends - we also feature many local not-for-profit organizations, such as Colonie Senior Service Centers, Colonie Art League, Colonie Historical Society, Greater Loudonville Association, American Italian Heritage Association and Daughters of the American Revolution.

Please ride the free shuttle from Southgate Elementary School as parking is limited.

Our final summer concert will be this Wednesday, August 13th featuring Jim Gaudet and the Railroad Boys!

Music starts at 6:00pm and ends at 8:00pm. Joe's Dough 2 Go Pizza will be selling pizza, Scout Troop 1701 will be selling cookies and we have ice cream and popcorn for sale!

Our House and buildings are open from 5:00pm to 6:00pm for free tours so come early!

Tickets are still only $5 per person and children ages 12 and under are free.
