People hear "leveling up" and assume it means giving up all-inclusive entirely.

It doesn't. A safari lodge with daily game drives and every meal included is still all-inclusive. So is a river cruise where the ship is your floating hotel.

The structure stays the same. The experience just gets bigger.

There are two real waves of RSVPs after you send destination wedding invitations: one right after the invites go out, another right before the deadline. The quiet stretch in between isn't a warning sign, no matter how tempting it is to refresh your booking spreadsheet every hour.

The thing actually worth watching is different: numbers still weak once you're close to the RSVP deadline, or dropping under your room block minimum. That's when it's worth a real look, not before.

Build a small cushion into your room block from the start, and keep checking in with guests instead of going quiet until the deadline. Both save you a scramble later.

Save this one for when your own list starts feeling slow.

I've toured 235 resorts. Most couples only need to compare 3.

Here's what actually happens when you start looking: you open a Pinterest board, a Facebook group, six resort Instagram pages & a group chat full of opinions. Forty tabs later you know less than when you started.

You don't need more options. You need three questions answered first:

🛏️ How many rooms will you actually need? (Not "guessing," pull your real guest list.)

💰 What's the per-room budget your group can realistically afford?

👣 What's the one thing you won't compromise on? Beach vs. pool, adults-only vs. family-friendly, or vows with your toes in the sand.

Answer those and the list of "maybe" resorts drops from 30 to 3 almost immediately. Everything else is noise dressed up as research.

I've walked the rooms and sat through the sales pitches at more properties than I can count. When I hand a couple 3 resorts, it's because I already ruled out the other 232.

I got tired of watching couples find out about destination wedding package extras after they'd already picked a resort.

Most couples pick a resort off the package price, then find out later what's actually extra: lighting, a DJ, photography, guests past the package's headcount. Those add up fast, and they carry their own tax and service fees on top when you book them separately.

I built a calculator so you know your real total before you fall for a resort, not after. Try it here: https://kptravelgroup.com/destination-wedding-cost-calculator

Most couples start planning a destination wedding by falling for a resort. Backwards.

Before you shop resorts, there are five decisions worth making first: what the day actually looks like to you, a real budget number as a couple, a rough guest count, your season, and only then where your guests can actually get to easily.

Comment START and I'll send you the full guide on where to actually start.

The riskiest thing you can tell your wedding guests: "Just book however you want."

Guests scatter across different sites, different agents, different dates. Some even book the wrong resort. Then your coordinator asks for a rooming list & nobody has one.

One system fixes it: guests book through your wedding website, I track it all, & you get a real rooming list instead of a group chat mess.

The day my wedding couples stop getting texted what dates, what resort, how much, & when to book by? Their wedding website goes live.

One link. Guests view room options, pick their dates, submit their own reservation request. No more "which room should I book" or "how much is the deposit" landing in your inbox.

Half your guest list hasn't responded. That's not a red flag, that's normal.

Guest lists move in two waves: right after invites go out & again right before the RSVP deadline. The quiet middle everyone panics about is expected, not a sign no one's coming.

Here's the number that actually answers it: on average, about half the people a couple invites end up booking. That's a different question than how full a room block ends up (that one runs closer to 80-85%, since blocks are sized for realistic attendance, not the full invite list). Two different questions, two different answers, & mixing them up is where the panic comes from.

Swipe through for the 5 real reasons a list shrinks, and where you can actually do something about it.

The easiest thing I could do is agree with every resort a couple brings me.

It would mean fewer hard conversations & a faster yes. But if I don't think a resort can deliver the week you're picturing, agreeing gets you a booking, not the trip you actually wanted.

So when a couple comes to me with the resort already picked, sometimes the honest answer is no. Most advisors won't tell you that, because losing the sale feels worse than the conversation. I'd rather have the conversation.
