Tana Hoffman Cook has built five companies. Every one of them served the same customer: a woman who wants to get outside and doesn't have the gear, the crew, or the confidence to go alone.

The businesses kept changing shape, gear rentals became an e-commerce shop, then an online community, then an app, then the single-day adventure company she runs today. The customer never changed.

At July's Chance Meetings, Tana talked candidly about supply chains breaking overnight, funding drying up, and the pivot nobody warns you about: taking a full-time job and asking whether that means you failed. Her line that stuck with us: be quick to kill the product, but never kill the customer.

Chance Meetings is back, and this one's about Needs & Leads. Open to all, free to attend.

Monday, August 3rd at Melvin Kitchen and Taproom in Alpine, WY.

Here's how it works. You'll break into a small, facilitated group of 10 to 12 people. Each person gets 90 seconds to share one real need, professional, business, or otherwise. Then the group weighs in with a contact, a resource, an idea, or a conversation worth having. The best part is usually the follow-up.

Come ready to ask for something specific, and ready to help someone else get where they're going. Everyone commits to confidentiality, and facilitators keep things moving so each person gets their turn.

📢 Before you come:

We start promptly at 5:30, so give yourself time to check in and settle
Have your need ready to share in 90 seconds or less
Bring your phone to jot down the leads coming your way

Our 15th Annual Pitch Day finalists are here, and selection was tougher than ever with a record number of applicants.

Five Wyoming companies will take the stage this September:

Alpine Revival (Jackson) makes luxury mountain knitwear rooted in ski heritage. EstateScribe (Jackson) turns client intake into signing-ready wills and trusts in minutes. Roots Kitchen & Cannery (Jackson) connects local farms to value-added food products across Greater Yellowstone. Visual Engineering (Pinedale) is rebuilding the coffee equipment market with one machine that brews it all. And WYODYNAMICS (Powell) turns waste energy and captured emissions into high-value microalgae ingredients.

Before the event, each founder works through five coaching sessions with our team of business experts. That coaching is what makes Pitch Day what it is.

Come cheer them on Thursday, September 24, from 5 to 7 PM at the Center for the Arts in Jackson. It's free, open to the public, with a reception to follow and a livestream for anyone who can't make it in person.

David Gelles, New York Times climate reporter and author of “Dirtbag Billionaire,” chronicles the life of Yvon Chouinard, the founder of Patagonia, detailing his journey from a dirtbag climber to a billionaire who ultimately gave away his company and its profits to fight climate change. The book explores how Chouinard built a billion-dollar brand known for environmental activism, his complex relationship with capitalism and his radical decision to transfer ownership to a trust to redirect profits to environmental causes, challenging traditional business models. This talk will be moderated by Christian Beckwith, founder of the Teton Climbers Coalition and Alpinist Magazine.
