The blindfold was on, the broomstick was up, and your tío had the rope and absolutely no intention of playing fair. 🪅

He would let the little ones get close. He would let a cousin land one glancing hit so the crowd stayed loud. And then some grown man in his thirties would step up swinging and the piñata would go straight to the sky, and the tío would stand there with a face like he had nothing to do with it.

Everybody screaming, one kid crying, an abuela laughing in a lawn chair, papel picado on the fence, and a boombox on a chair playing the same six songs. That was the whole afternoon and it was perfect.

Who was the rope tío in your family, and did anyone ever actually beat him?
