The Foothill Band Department consists of three concert/symphonic bands, three jazz ensembles, percussion ensembles, indoor drum line, color guard, and the state’s largest marching band. Today, the program consists of four concert/symphonic bands, three jazz ensembles, pep band, indoor drum line, color guards, and marching band. The concert and jazz ensembles consistently receive Superior Ratings a
t music festivals and the Falcon Marching Band is the largest band in Nevada with nearly 300 members. These ensembles have performed on the world famous Las Vegas Strip at Aria, Bally’s, Cosmopolitan, Paris, Mandalay Bay, MGM Grand, Caesar’s Palace, Planet Hollywood, and the Las Vegas Convention Center. The Falcon Marching Band is a 16-time Bands of America Regional Championship Finalist. Patrick’s Day Parade in Dublin, Ireland and in 2012 appeared in the National Memorial Day Parade in Washington D.C. The Foothill Band was one of only six high school bands selected to perform in the 2014 Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade and on January 2, 2017 the Foothill Marching Band was the first ever band from the Clark County School District to march in the Tournament of Roses Parade in Pasadena, California. The Foothill Drum Line has been Finalist seven times in the WGI Percussion World Championships and was featured on national television (FOX) in the American Country Awards, performing with Trace Adkins. The Foothill Color Guard program consists of both Varsity and Junior Varsity groups that perform and compete throughout the Southwest. The Foothill Color Guards have won many competitions in the Winter Guard Association of Southern California (WGASC) and Winter Guard International (WGI). The Foothill Jazz Ensembles regularly perform and compete in southern Nevada and California and have participated in the Essentially Ellington Festivals in Utah and Nevada. In April of 2019, the Foothill Jazz Ensembles competed in the nationally recognized Reno Jazz Festival. In June of 2019, the Foothill Marching Band, Jazz Ensemble, Wind Symphony, and Symphonic Band performed concerts and parades in London, Paris, and Normandy as part of the 75th Anniversary of the D-Day Landings. Members of the Foothill Wind Symphony and Symphonic Bands participate in the district Honor Bands, Nevada All State Ensembles, and are often Finalists and Winners in the State Solo & Ensemble contests. In 2010 the Foothill Wind Symphony commissioned and premiered “The Seal Lullaby” by Grammy Award winning composer, Eric Whitacre. On November 25, 2014 the Foothill Wind Symphony premiered “Psalm 92” by Anthony LaBounty in the world famous Carnegie Hall in New York. This concert also featured internationally recognized performing artist, Marie Osmond, soloing with the Foothill Wind Symphony. On February 25, 2015 the Foothill Pep Band appeared with the Rascal Flatts at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino. In April of 2018, members of the Foothill Drum Line performed for Gwen Stefani at the Planet Hollywood Hotel and Casino. On January 22, 2020 the Foothill Drum Line performed for celebrity chef, Guy Fieri, at his birthday celebration at his restaurant at Harrah’s. Additionally, the Foothill Performing Arts Department has been a Grammy Signature Schools Semi-Finalist.
