It’s September! 🍁🍂

These strawflowers are for the drying rack. We’ve got a lot of goodies up our sleeves this fall. That’s all I’ll share for now. But I think you’re going to be excited for what we’ve been working on.

We’ve got three new color palettes coming at you this weekend!

Photos 1-3: “In Memory of Dolly”: These bouquets feature pink lisianthus and/or roses, Dolly Parton’s signature stage color, sunshine yellow, her favorite color, and shimmery celosia. I think the big yellow marigold kind of evokes her big yellow hair. 💕💛💝

Photos 4-6: “I’M SO OVER SUMMER BRING ON FALL”: As Crystal loving scrawled in all caps on the labels this morning. If anyone deserves to be over summer, it’s Crystal. They’ve been out in the field all summer in these 95 degree days week after week. In honor of Crystal, BRING ON FALL. 🍂🍁

Photos 7-8: “Peaches ‘N Cream”: These bouquets evokes a delicious peach pie à la mode. Set these on your table with your favorite stone fruits and enjoy a visual and aromatic feast. 🍑🍨

We also have dahlia jars!

You can find our fresh flowers at our farm stand (10165 Jean Ellen Ct, Gilroy) or LJB Farms.

Working on an order for a wedding with the most cheery color palette ever, and it’s giving me joy today.

I wish Dolly Parton could see how unified our country is in her passing. I can’t remember the last event in our history we all agreed on. Your Baptist auntie, your q***r cousin, your hairdresser, your rich and your poor—we all are loved Dolly. Even my 8th grader heard about her passing at school and said, “I heard she could have been a billionaire but gave it away. I want to learn more about a person who does that.”

I’ve been thinking about what it means to be a person like Dolly. The clips of her various interviews over the years are filling my feed, and one thing they have in common is she didn’t seem to take herself too seriously. She wasn’t afraid of making mistakes, she didn’t require herself to be perfect, and she extended that grace to others.

I’ll share one quick thing I learned this week. I didn’t know too much about her personal life and I always figured “Jolene” was written from a place of deep heartbreak and betrayal.

Wrong. She wrote “Jolene” because a bank teller *flirted* with Carl once. Dolly may have been progressive in her values but she believed in some good old fashioned marital rules and SHE DIDN’T WANT NO BANK TELLER GETTIN SWEET ON HER MAN. Good for her. Apparently it became a running joke between Dolly and Carl for decades after the song came out, and I love that so much for her.

What stories about Dolly Parton are coming up for you this week?

This one’s for the gardeners. I’ve always been a Shower girl but over the last couple of days I’ve taken a turn for the chaotic. I’ve developed an affinity for Soaker. Half the water gets on my feet but something about it makes me feel like I’m really doing something. It’s diabolical, obviously, but it’s August, and anyone who gardens in zone 9B knows what that means. I needed a hose setting that matches the chaos that is an August garden. Now, Center…that one is for sociopaths. Change my mind.

What is your hose setting?

Anyone else feeling like they’re fighting off a Ben Affleck-style breakdown the entire month of August? Are you still standing? GOOD JOB. A little beat up, and tried? That’s okay. WE ALL ARE, for god’s sake it’s AUGUST. You made it to Friday and you know what that means—the farm stand is open and stocked! Treat yourself to some gorgeous bouquets and freshly picked figs. Grab the poem-of-the-week. Completely drained of social battery? No problem. You don’t have to talk to anyone when you shop our farm stand. It’s all self-serve. If you see one of us and aren’t in the mood to chat, wave us off. We get it. We respect your Augusting. The cool thing about flowers is they take your carbon dioxide and give you oxygen without asking for anything in return. Breathe in, friends.

Open Friday-Sunday 8:30am-dusk.

Bouquets are giving that summer-to-fall transition this weekend. Perfect for this cooler weather we’re having (finally). Our final days before the kids go back to school. Another summer in the books. I’ve been noticing the moment in front of me, feeling aware of how fleeting it all is. Flowers have always helped me pay attention. They are one small way I stay awake to my life.

The colorways this week are killing me! Whether your weekend vibe is California August, Disney Princess, or a rich Sonoma Cabernet, we’ve got something for your table.

The Rapunzel bouquet is inspired by a bouquet my 13-year-old made earlier this week that she named Rapunzel. We went to Disneyland earlier this summer and so we’ve all been singing and twirling like a Disney princess since we’ve been back. The California August bouquets drew inspiration from our pepper trees that are just getting their fragrant pink peppercorns, and the orange and gold hues that remind me of the hills of our region. The Sonoma Cabernet is inspired by the bottle you might have on your long table as you eat and gather with family on a warm August evening.

We also have jar arrangements, sunflowers by the stem, and straight bunches. Bouquets are $25 and bunches are $10.
