A political headshot is not just a nice photo. It is campaign strategy in one frame.
For Erie County Commissioner candidate Mindy Kayl, we spent time before the session talking through what this image needed to communicate before the first button was ever clicked.
For a political portrait, every choice matters:
the color, the expression, the background, the crop, and the emotional read of the image.
We settled on a blue background because blue traditionally communicates trust, stability, calm, confidence, and approachability all essential qualities for a candidate asking voters to believe in their leadership.
Her expression was equally important. We wanted something that felt warm but confident, open but professional, approachable but strong. Not overly posed. Not overly polished. Just the kind of expression that says, “I am ready to serve, and you can have a real conversation with me.”
That is the difference between a headshot and a strategic portrait.
For candidates, executives, and community leaders, your image has to work before you ever say a word.
Real. Confident. Captured.
