Cast Spotlight #2: Wesley True 🤩
Our second feature in the “A Lil’ Bit of Broadway” cast series is none other than Wesley True, a celebrated local chef and now a Broadway newcomer!
You may know Wesley from the culinary world, he’s a renowned chef, former Top Chef contestant, and owner of Inman Social. Now he is stepping out of the kitchen and onto the stage to show a whole new side of his creativity!
Wesley True was born in Mobile, Alabama, and raised in both Mobile and Houma, Louisiana. He discovered his passion for the culinary arts while attending The University of Mississippi at Oxford. As his interest in the art form evolved, he attended the Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, New York. Upon graduating in 2001, he worked in many well-known Michelin Star kitchens, including those of Marcus Samuelson’s restaurant Aquavit, Brad Farmerie’s Public, Bobby Flay’s Mesa Grill, Gordon Ramsay at The London Hotel, and Cesar Ramirez, Executive Chef of Bouley.
In 2007, he returned to Mobile, where he opened his namesake TRUE, where his dedication to fresh seasonal ingredients and singular culinary ex*****on earned him a reputation as one of the best chefs in the region. While at TRUE, he was a semi-finalist in 2011 and 2012 for the James Beard “Best Chef—South” Award. He served as the chef spokesperson for the Alabama Gulf Seafood Board.
Change called again in 2014 when True moved to Atlanta, Georgia, to become the Executive Chef of the celebrated Optimist Restaurant.
He has appeared and competed on Bravo’s "Top Chef" and The Food Network’s "Beat Bobby Flay." He has been featured in "USA Today," "Southern Living" and "Garden and Gun."
In 2020, he, his wife, Bobbi, and their young son moved to Cleveland, Tennessee, where True opened Inman Social, offering a contemporary take on authentic Italian-American Cuisine.
A Lil’ Bit of Broadway is a joyful r***e featuring both seasoned performers and rising stars, with selections from "Les Misérables," "The Secret Garden," "Oliver!," "Rent" and more. Wesley brings his signature energy and authenticity to the show, and we can’t wait for audiences to see him shine in a new spotlight.
