Some really special news to share. 🌸

This summer, I joined the Board of Directors of the Growing Kindness Project, where I’m honored to serve as Secretary on the Executive Committee.

Growing Kindness is built around a beautifully simple idea: grow flowers, give them away, and invite others to do the same.

If you’ve been here for a while, you probably know why this feels so close to my heart.

I found gardening during a season of grief and burnout, and somewhere along the way, what started as a place to put my hands in the dirt became a source of healing, creativity, joy, and connection. Eventually, that grew into Petunia.

From the beginning, I knew I wanted Petunia to be about more than growing flowers. I wanted it to be a way to create beauty, share it with others, and use what I grow and make to bring a little more joy into the world.

It feels really special to see this become part of Petunia’s story. 💗

And I’m especially excited that North Carolina is represented within Growing Kindness’s executive leadership. We have such an incredible community of gardeners, growers, flower lovers, and artists across our state, and I can’t wait to build more connections here at home and throughout the region.

So consider this an open invitation. If you’re nearby or somewhere farther away and this mission speaks to you, I’d love to hear from you. Whether you’re interested in growing, giving, partnering, collaborating, or simply finding a way to get involved, please reach out.

There’s so much more to come, and I can’t wait to share more of it with you.

Here’s to seeing what we can grow together. 🌸

I let the garden go this summer. And I think I needed to.

Life got really full. Between transitions at work, focusing on my health, being present with my family, and everything else that needed my attention, I realized I just didn’t have much left to give the garden.

So I gave myself permission to let it go.

Because the last thing I wanted was for this place to become another thing I had to keep up with. The garden has always been my safe and happy place. A place to grow, follow the seasons, experiment, make something beautiful, and find joy along the way. I never wanted to resent it.

And honestly, this summer didn’t make it easy. The heat and dryness were brutal. Spider mites seemed determined to take over everything. And just when I thought we’d made it through the worst of it, the deer discovered the garden. 😅 A fence is officially on next year’s list.

But stepping away gave me space to think about what I actually want this garden to be.

I’ve realized more than ever that I don’t want to be a flower farmer. I don’t need every bed to be productive or every bloom to become something I sell. I want this garden to be a source of inspiration, joy, and beauty. A place to grow flowers and herbs, experiment, follow my curiosity, and create with whatever the seasons give me.

Right now, it’s an absolute mess. 😂 There are weeds everywhere, spent plants to pull, beds to reset, and plenty I want to rethink.

But for the first time in a while, I’m really excited to get back out there.

To clean it up. Reset. Plant again. And slowly turn this space into something that feels even more like me.

Maybe letting it go for a season was exactly what I needed to find my way back to it. 💗

A little Sunday afternoon experiment 🍎

We’re putting the freeze dryer to work again, this time with Ambrosia apples! Some plain, some cinnamon, and a few different thicknesses to see what we like best.

The kids helped with the prep, and we can’t wait to see how they turn out.

The hardest part is waiting to try them! 🤍

First up in the freeze dryer: rosemary 🌿

Beautiful color, incredibly fragile. Just getting started with this thing, and I already have a growing list of flowers and botanicals I want to try.

What should go in next? 👀

We bought this freeze dryer in January and are FINALLY testing it out. 💗🌿

Starting very ambitiously with… a couple sprigs of rosemary. 😂

We have so many ideas for this thing that will hopefully make their way to the farm stand. For now, we’re learning as we go!

The sweetest surprise from my team. 🥹💗

There’s something bittersweet about closing out a season that has held so much growth, so many good people, and a whole lot of memories. I’m leaving this one with a very full heart.

I can’t share all of what’s next quite yet, but I’m grateful for a little room to breathe, pour some energy into a few projects that have been waiting for me, and enjoy the space between what was and whatever comes next.

Here’s to new seasons. ✨
