🌟 Summer 2026 Internship Opportunity at Wind River Wild Horse Sanctuary 🐴

We are actively seeking two motivated and enthusiastic interns to join our team for the Summer 2026 season.

🔸Internship Primary Focus & Responsibilities:
- Assisting with daily chores
- Leading Wild Horse Tours (must be sociable and professional).

🔸Intern's will also be exposed to ranch hand projects, veterinary work, cattle work, and horse work.

🔸General Requirements
- Age: Must be 16 years of age or older
- Must possess a valid driver’s license.
- High School Diploma or G.E.D. equivalent.
- Highly sociable, professional, and possess strong interpersonal skills (people-friendly).
-Horse handling experience is appreciated but not required.

🔸Housing & Logistics
- Paid Internship
- On-Site Housing - (unless you live locally)
- Pets are strongly discouraged as they are strictly prohibited inside all housing and office facilities. Horses are up for discussion.

Being forced to use alternative lighting isn’t always bad! I’ve had these oil lamps for ever and they come in handy when there is a state wide power outage. Hope everyone is warm and cozy and I’m thankful today wasn’t blizzarding.

I took a walk today to the old “dump” hidden on the farm not expecting to find much. Over the years I’ve been down there many times and thought I’d found about everything. But wind, water, snow and animals wear away the dirt and new things are exposed, revealing signs of life from other people who lived here. A treasure hunters delight!

On a side note, I have looked and looked for an arrowhead and haven’t found a single one. Ever. 🧐

In the last 90 years this little farm on Zero Road has passed through 4 families. It was homesteaded as 640 acres, then shrank to 160 and now even less, sadly. It has raised sheep, cattle, hay and horses, and someone along the way had foresight to plant numerous trees for shade and shelter.

I am amazed that we have lived here as long as we have because, man, it has not been easy on any level. But this farm has seen my own children, grandchildren, and beloved animals grow, and I love it so much for providing space, shelter, freedom and happiness. I have learned so much from the spirit of this place and I do not take it for granted for one minute.

So grateful to be held by this ol’ place.

The Bloomery. September 27.
Gabriel The Bull closes the season with his haunting western Spanish guitar and storytelling through song.
I'm always amazed at what people remember from these nights with Gabriel. Everyone walks away with a different experience and it reminds me how universal, and how necessary, music is to our souls.

We have been so fortunate to host incredible bands this year. Every. Single. One. Most of our shows sold out this summer, and this one is headed in the same direction. And it will be the final gathering of the year before autumn settles in.
