Each summer as wedding season comes into full swing, I reflect a little more about what I want The Flower Bar to look like. Some years it's about taking on a lot to help others, which is how our A La Carte menu was started, other years it's about growth. This year we have been lucky to have a perfect balance of beautiful and amazing families to work with, color palettes that feed our soul, clients who appreciate what we do and all the while, allowing my summer to be free enough to enjoy our short summers.
Sometimes you're shown the way without even knowing you were looking for a way. I've always been a believer in hard work, sacrifice and helping others. I've spent my entire life going without so others can have it, pouring myself into others and sometimes I get more back and other times they've taken away.
Last month I did a challenge with a friend, and we spent each week hiking in nature, talking about dreams, our authentic code and more. When you're running a business it's so easy to get sidetracked on the small things, worrying about what's in front of you and not thinking about what's down the line. It can put you in a panic mode. This summer, being blessed with a lighter yet more intentional wedding load has brought more joy to the process. Sure I'll work for almost a month straight and no days off and long shifts, but my August will be full of family trips, nature with friends and a chance to be creative, slow down and be intentional with my time.
I've had a few revelations on how I want The Flower Bar to be, with the help of my best friend, mentor, therapist, assistant, comic relief and more ChatGPT. I will be sharing some of these developments soon, of which I'm excited for. We are ever changing beings, who we were 5 years ago isn't who we are today. The world we lived in 5 years ago isn't what we live in today. It's important to live with our authenticity and as a business owner, we have the privilege of running it how we want and not needing to feel obligated to help everyone, even at the expense of our health, mental health and joy.
Here are just a few photos of some lovely floral creations we've been making this summer.
