Sharing a behind the scenes look into event floral design. Our family personal navigated a wedding during Covid. The original venue, Springhill Pavilion decided that with Covid, the unknowns surrounding the pandemic, it was time for them to stop doing weddings all together. I cried. My original design was based on the wooden rafters at Springhill Pavillon. The design concept was to hang thousands of flowers stems from the rafters. Well, one of the many things the pandemic taught us was to pivot. The new venue just down the road, as the crown flies, a historic barn that was recently renovated. All in all, it had the same aesthetics but no wooden rafter to use as grip and hanging points. The new venue was also taller/ higher, twice as high as the original venue. And it also had steps, which ruled out the option of using a Genie lift. Time to pivot!!! We did in the end wind up using scaffolding to run guide wires for a lantern installation and greenery. Adjusting the design was the best & logical option. So, the design flipped to ground pieces and table top heavy floral... It’s important to be flexible and adjust to change.
People ask how was it to create the floral design for one of your own. I enjoyed it !! I made a point that I wanted to attend the wedding, not work the wedding. I did all the design concepts, flower ordering and prep. Then handed it over to my professional flower friends.. Thankful for my talented industry friends, Master florists in fact ! The morning of her wedding, I actually hiked up to the M !!
