WHY DOES BLK ASS FLEA MKT EXIST?

Because BLK folx deserve places to just, BE.

To sell.
To create.
To connect.
To play.
To rest.
To discover.
To dance.
To build.

To experience BLK joy without permission.

For years, we’ve been creating these spaces across Baltimore bringing Black vendors, artists, creatives, families, neighbors, and community together.

And what you see on the flyer is only a fraction of the work.

There is so much that happens behind the scenes to make these spaces possible. The planning. The relationships. The risk. The labor. The vision. The people who keep showing up because we believe this work matters.

Now, we’re thinking about what it could look like to have a space of our own. A larger team. Expansion across the board.

A place where this work doesn’t have to happen one event at a time.

A place where BLK joy, creativity, entrepreneurship, culture, rest, and community can exist all year long.

That’s what we’re asking you to invest in.

Today is . Our goal is BIG but so is the vision.

For years, you’ve shown up for BLK ASS FLEA MKT.

You’ve shopped with our vendors.
You’ve danced with us.
You’ve discovered your new favorite artist.
You’ve brought your family.
You’ve told your cousins.
You’ve made this community what it is.

The truth is...

BAFM has never been built by one person.

It’s been built by all of us.

On August 7, we’re participating in CLLCTIVGIVE 2026, and we’re inviting our community to help write the next chapter CLLCTIVLY

Our goal is to raise $50,000 to strengthen the foundation of BLK ASS FLEA MKT so we can continue creating opportunities for BLK entrepreneurs, artists, creatives, and the communities that make this work possible.

This campaign is about deciding what kind of future we want to build together.

A future with more opportunities.
More ownership.
More artists.
More BLK-owned businesses.
More spaces where our people can gather, celebrate, and belong.

BLK ASS FLEA MKTS HAS always been about creating spaces for BLK joy, play, rest + community…

So it deeply saddened us to hear a neighbor in the Whitelock Community filed a complaint with BPD against our BLK ASS REST DAY [PARTY] we had planned for tomorrow. The inception of BAFM started at Whitelock Community Farm in 2021.

Could we go to the Western District and push back on this complaint, but here’s the truth:
1. We have no desire to be where we aren’t welcome
2. We have no desire to put up a “fight”…to rest

Moments like this have us reflecting on a question we’ve been sitting with more and more:

What would it look like for BLK ASS FLEA MKT to have a space of our own?

A place where BLK joy, creativity, and community can exist on our own terms. A place where we can continue building the future we’ve always imagined, with fewer barriers and more freedom to serve.

While tomorrow’s initial plans won’t take place, we’d still love to be in community with you!

You’re invited to Whitelock Community Farm tomorrow at 1pm for yoga with Afia P. + Brittney London will be on site offering Thai Yoga Massage
