🕯️ SAME ROOM. DIFFERENT GLOW. 🕯️

Candles are one of the simplest ways to change the feel of the Nectar Room, and these two weddings show how differently they can work.

In one, pillar candles sit among soft pastel flowers to create a light, relaxed look. In the other, tall taper candles, white flowers and greenery give the tables and head table a more structured, dramatic feel.

Different flowers, different styling, but the candles bring warmth to both.

Tui Hills has a range of candles, vases, table runners, napkins, signs and other styling items available, and our professional stylist Devon can help pull the whole look together. It makes getting from “we like this sort of thing” to a finished room considerably easier.

🌿 SEE TUI HILLS’ AWARD-WINNING PAVILION FOR YOURSELF 🌿

The Nikau Pavilion was designed to solve a very Auckland problem: how do you have a garden wedding without being completely at the mercy of the weather?

The answer is a light-filled ceremony space surrounded by native garden. Its huge glass walls can be opened when the weather behaves, keeping the Pavilion connected to the courtyard and greenery outside. Close them up and you’ve got protection from rain, wind and strong summer sun without losing the garden outlook.

The combination of timber, glass and that soaring white ceiling also gives couples a very clean backdrop to style however they want.

It’s a design that won Gold at the 2024 Best Design Awards, and you can see why for yourself at the West Auckland Wedding Showcase this Sunday, 18 October, from 11am-3pm.

📷 PIC OF THE WEEK - NESTLED IN NATURE 📷

From ground level, Tui Hills already feels surrounded by native bush. From the air, you really see just how much greenery wraps around the ceremony lawn.

Craig Shearer took this aerial before last October’s West Auckland Wedding Showcase. The white rotunda and ceremony seating sit neatly in the middle of the lawn, almost completely enclosed by palms, tree ferns and established bush.

It’s a good example of what makes Tui Hills feel quite different from a more open wedding venue. You’re only in West Auckland, but the setting feels much more secluded.

🤍 A DIFFERENT LOOK FOR THE NECTAR ROOM 🤍

At Bonnie and River’s September wedding, the tables in the Nectar Room were dressed with full white tablecloths, which gave the room quite a different look from usual.

Most couples leave Tui Hills’ timber tables uncovered, or use a runner down the centre, so the full linen treatment makes a noticeable change. Paired with black napkins, simple white flowers and candlelight, it created a clean, slightly more formal feel while still keeping the warmth of the room.

It’s a good example of how much the same space can change depending on a few straightforward styling choices.

📷 PIC OF THE WEEK - THREE LOOKS, ONE MOMENT 📷

There’s a lot going on in this photo, and most of it comes down to where everyone’s looking.

Caitlin is walking into the Nikau Pavilion with her dad at her side during her October wedding last year. Her eyes are fixed ahead on groom Hewahd. Her dad gives the camera a quick look. And one of the guests on the right is watching Caitlin come down the aisle.

Those different sightlines give the image its energy. Your eye moves around the frame, but always comes back to Caitlin.

The lowish angle helps too. It gives Caitlin and her dad plenty of presence while still showing off the height, timber framing and huge windows of the Nikau Pavilion behind them.

It’s a ceremony entrance, but it doesn’t feel stiff or posed. It feels like everyone in the room is watching a slightly different part of the same moment.

🤍 A DRAMATIC NEW LOOK FOR THE NECTAR ROOM 🤍

Tino and Vincent’s wedding this month gave the Nectar Room a completely different feel.

The sweeping white drapery behind the head table creates a strong focal point and turns a fairly simple wall into a proper backdrop for the couple. Paired with the white florals and dark timber furniture, it’s dramatic without being overdone.

It’s also a good example of how flexible the Nectar Room can be. A few well-chosen styling elements can change the character of the space quite substantially.

📷 PIC OF THE WEEK - NEXT IN LINE FOR A HUG 📷

Some of the best ceremony photos happen just after the ceremony.

Monique and Caleb’s Tui Hills wedding in October 2024 had moved past the formal part, and now came the hugs. This shot catches one guest heading straight towards Monique with both arms already open and absolutely no intention of playing it cool.

That’s what makes the image. There’s no pose and no need for one. Monique’s reaching back, the next guests are gathering around, ch*****ne is already in hand, and the whole Kowhai Glade has shifted from ceremony space to celebration in a matter of minutes.

It also shows why the Glade works so well after the vows. There’s room for everyone to stay outside, mingle and congratulate the couple without immediately having to move elsewhere, while the native bush and rotunda keep the setting unmistakably Tui Hills.

🏡 CHAPMAN HOUSE OPEN TO VIEW AT WEDDING SHOWCASE 🏡

Come and see Chapman House during the West Auckland Wedding Showcase on Sunday 18 October. You're invited to inspect the accommodation for up to 10 people right next door to Tui Hills, less than 15 minutes from Abel Estate.

It’s becoming increasingly popular with bridal parties who want to stay close to their venue before the wedding, then stay on afterwards rather than worrying about transport at the end of the night. It also makes the morning of the wedding much simpler, with everyone already where they need to be.

During the showcase, you can tour the two venues, visit Chapman House, meet wedding suppliers and get a much clearer idea of how the whole day could work in practice.
