Up Close and Acoustic with Simon Thompson!

Fresh from taking out the Overall Winner title at the MLT NZ Gold Guitar Awards, Simon is bringing his music, stories and songs home to Southland for a special afternoon at RIFF.

We'll hear from rising country talent Lara Kerr, then Corbyn Shuttleworth will sit down with Simon for a chat about his journey, his Gold Guitar success, and what's next. Simon will then finish the afternoon with an intimate acoustic performance.

If you've followed Simon's journey or just enjoy great country music, this is a fantastic chance to celebrate one of Southland's own in a relaxed and personal setting.

🎸 As we come to the end of our Guitar Legends 2026 video spotlights, it's time to acknowledge the musicians who helped make the whole show possible.

Here, Tyler Reynolds and Filth Wizard - NZ are joined by Josh Hansen on guitar and Marcus Crowe on vocals, performing The Chronomancer by The Sword.

Throughout this year's sold-out three-night run, Tyler Reynolds, Hanna Ott and Joseph O'Donnell as Filth Wizard, alongside Marcus Crowe, formed the backbone of Guitar Legends, backing the other 19 guitarists across an incredible range of songs and styles.

The 19 guitarists they supported would all agree these musicians are at the top of their game and an absolute dream to be backed by. Their versatility, professionalism, and ability to make every performer shine is a huge part of what makes Guitar Legends such a special event.
