🎉 Whakanui celebrating 10 years of music and the arts at The Piano!

Can you believe it? This month we turn 10, and what a 10 years it's been. Thousands of performances and events. Countless memories made. One very special building we’re proud to call home.

In August 2016, the inaugural performance took place with icon Doug Caldwell and Friends, followed by our official opening in September. Designed by Wilkie + Bruce, built by Leighs Construction, and inspired by the form of a grand piano, our building was created with both beauty and acoustics in mind. Giving artists and audiences a truly special place to experience live performance.

And what is the most important part of The Piano? He tangata, he tangata, he tangata - it is the people, it is the people, it is the people.

💫 Through dedication, tenacity and vision our founding Director Bronwyn Bijl, family and founding Trustees; staff; sponsors and supporters; contractors; generous volunteers and the City of Christchurch brought The Piano to life.

🙏Thank you to the Philip Carter family for believing in our vision, our work, and supporting us since day one.

🤲 Ngā mihi nui, a huge thank you to the exceptional individuals, Trusts and Foundations, businesses, partners and Christchurch City Council who enabled our build and chattels back in 2016, and your continued support today.

The Piano and Isaac Theatre Royal are teaming up for the second time to bring Arts on Tour favourite Penny Ashton back to Ōtautahi with her latest solo musical comedy The Tempestuous! A Shakespearean frolic packed with 11 characters, menopausal witches, l***y suitors and one very stroppy princess. Incredibly clever. Phenomenally funny.
