Juliana Rodriguez | Artista is an Argentine multidisciplinary artist whose journey has taken her across different places, exploring art through various mediums, from painting on canvas to tattooing and wearable art. She is always curious to experiment and discover new ways of creating, approaching art as an ongoing process of exploration and expression.
y2iced explores tooth gems as a form of art and self-expression. More than just a passing trend, tooth adornment has a rich history dating back to around 600 CE, when the Maya and other Mesoamerican cultures decorated their teeth for spiritual and social reasons using precious materials like turquoise, jade, pyrite, and gold. In the 1980s, tooth adornment took on its modern form through the Black American community, becoming a staple of hip-hop culture and self-expression.
Today, gems are applied using bonding techniques similar to those used in dental work, with proper hygiene and safety measures. Swarovski crystals are chosen for their signature sparkle, while silver and gold designs are also available and must be ordered and selected in advance with the artist.
