SUCHSIZEでは、チ・L・グエンと野村在を迎え、記憶の共有と継承を探求する展覧会を、近隣のアートスペースと協働で開催します。本展では、普段交わらないはずの他者の記憶に触れたときに起こる、記憶の想起や認識の変容についての可能性を探ります。両アーティストは、個人や家族など私的な記憶から作品を構成しつつも、記憶が個人だけに帰属することは稀であることを私たちに示唆します。そして記憶は、他者や作品との対話で想起し、時にコミュニティ内に保持され、また世代を超えて伝達されている事を思い出させてくれます。

この度、SUCHSIZEでは、チ・L・グエン（Chi L. Nguyễn）と野村在（Zai Nomura）を迎え、記憶の共有と継承を探求する展覧会を開催します。本展では、普段交わらないはずの他者の記憶に触れたときに起こる、記憶の想起や認識の変容についての可能性を探ります。
ベトナム人アーティストのグエンは、口承の伝統や工芸との対話を通じて、世代を超えて受け継がれてきた「継承された記憶」を解き明かし、伝承や歴史がいかにアイデンティティを形成するかを考察しています。彼女は、ライスペーパーという透明で脆い素材の上に、家族との記憶や植民地時代の記録を想起させるイラストを描くことを通して、世代を超えた歴史の視覚言語を重ね合わせ、記憶の境界を曖昧にしています。
一方、アメリカを拠点とする野村は、失われゆく記憶の継承に着目したパフォーマティブな彫刻作品を展示します。本作は、わたあめの製造機能をもつ彫刻と、認知症の方が所有する過去の写真が印刷された飴を中心に構成されています。会場を訪れた鑑賞者は、飴を選び、それから制作される「記憶のわたあめ」を食べるという体験を促されます。この行為を通して、鑑賞者を記憶の継承に能動的に参加させ、個人間の隔たりを超えた記憶を共有する輪に誘い込みます。
SUCHSIZEは、これらの他者の記憶や物語に触れる作品を通して、多文化が共生する大阪市西成区の社会構造に語りかける芸術交流を生み出します。無意識的な習慣や認識/記憶が個人の振る舞いを規定し、ひいては社会を形作るというハビトゥスの概念のように、私たちの記憶の共有と継承は、分断や絶え間ない変化を伴う現代において、社会のコミュニティを結び直す一つの術となり得るのではないでしょうか。私たちは、芸術作品による記憶の想起を出発点に、あらゆる物事と相互に影響し合った先の未来を想像するために、本展を社会に向けて開きます。

Chi L. Nguyễn | チ・L・グェン (b.1992, Hanoi, Vietnam)
ビジュアルアーティスト。キャッスル・カレッジ・ノッティンガムにてBTEC美術・デザイン課程を修了した後、ロンドン芸術大学キャンバーウェル・カレッジ・オブ・アーツでイラストレーション専攻の学士号を取得。グェンは、ドローイング、ペインティング、インスタレーション、学際的かつリサーチベースのプロジェクトなど、様々なメディアで制作をおこない、矛盾の狭間にある空間と状態、自然・人間・精神性の相互関係、そして家族の物語を探求する。 近年の主な展覧会は、2024年「Seeing Double」（Spinnerei - Galerie Archiv Massiv、ドイツ、ライプツィヒ）、 2023年「Assemblage: me, my story & I.」（The Dogma Collection、ベトナム、ホーチミン）、 2022年「The Room 2」展（Vincom Center for Contemporary Arts、ベトナム、ハノイ）などがある。
Zai Nomura | 野村 在 (b.1979, Kobe, Japan / New York, USA)
野村在は、ロンドン大学ゴールドスミス校にて美術修士号（MFA）を取得後、武蔵野美術大学にて博士号（美術）を取得。幼少期に経験した障害をもつ近親者の死や1995年の阪神淡路大震災は、物質の永続性や存在の安定性という概念に疑問を抱かせ、その後の創作活動に影響を与えている。近年の主な展覧会として、 第13回ソウル・メディアシティ・ビエンナーレ（ソウル市立美術館、ソウル）、第17回 資生堂 art egg（資生堂ギャラリー、東京）、TOKAS OPEN SITE 8（トーキョーアーツ アンドスペース本郷、東京）、888（ジャパンソサエティギャラリー、ニューヨーク）、あいちトリエンナーレ（岡崎会場、愛知）など がある。2019年から2021年にかけて、文化庁新進芸術家海外研修制度の助成を受け、ニューヨークのISCP（International Studio and Curatorial Program）アーティスト・イン・レジデンスに参加した。

Mary Lou DAVID | マリー・ルー・ダヴィド(b.1992, Bordeaux, France / Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam)
パリ生まれ、ロンドン育ち。現在はベトナムとフランスを拠点に活動。2018年から2025年まで、ベトナムのアートシーンを牽引する現代アートオーガナイゼーション「Sàn Art（サン・アート）」のキュレーター。実験映画、ビデオ・アート、クィア・パフォーマンス、DIYへの継続的な関心に加え、同地のインディペンデントなアートスペースを支援し、コラボレーションするための新たなネットワークの構築を目指す。さまざまなレジデンスプロジェクトに携わる中で、コミュニティに焦点を当てたプログラムと国際的な芸術交流が地元のアートシーンを多様にし、活性化するためのプロジェクトを数多く実践している。Sàn Artでの展覧会企画と並行して、「Saigon Experimental Film Festival' editions III and IV (2020年、 2022年) 」の共同キュレーション、 A. Farm (2018-2020年)、Times & Realities (2021年)、Sàn Art Studio (2021年〜)、Ecologies of Water (2023-)といったレジデンシープロジェクトにも関わっている。

SUCHSIZE is pleased to present ‘Tender Recalls / Prospective Futures’, an exhibition and series of public programmes bringing together Zai Nomura (Japan; US-based) and Chi L. Nguyễn (Vietnam). The exhibition explores the possibilities of memory recall, examining how our perceptions shift when we engage with the memories of others. While the artists begin from an intimate place—drawing on personal and family-based materials—they also remind us that memory rarely exists in isolation. It becomes a connective tissue—transmitted across generations, carried within communities, or unfolding between artwork and viewer.
By dialoguing with vernacular traditions and craft, Nguyễn unpacks inherited memory—familial and cultural legacies transferred generationally—to reflect on how identities are shaped by transmission and layered histories. Through her use of rice paper, she physically and metaphorically juxtaposes personal memories with visual references drawn from Vietnamese artistic heritage—including colonial-era illustrations, folk motifs, and antique ceramic patterns—allowing her to explore intergenerational history and the ways in which such influences shape a multifaceted sense of identity.
Meanwhile, Nomura presents a performative installation that questions how lost memories are inherited and shared. Equipped with a cotton candy machine, the work features candy imprinted with photographs drawn from the personal mementos of individuals affected by dementia. During the exhibition, a performer invites viewers to select a photograph, which is then spun into “memory cotton candy” for them to eat. Here, viewers are invited to experience a Proustian moment—a sudden, sensory-triggered return to forgotten memories, childhood tastes and sensations. The work engages them in a shared experience of nostalgia and transmission that transcends personal divides.
Memory as an artistic material is inherently tied to an intimate and private realm. By opening their practices outward and inviting viewers into dialogue, the artists allow shared experience to emerge in times marked by movement, societal fracture, and constant change. Just as social behaviours and beliefs are shaped through repetition and exposure, so too might shared memories subtly influence how we act and remember. Prospective memory refers to the cognitive process of remembering to perform an intended action in the future—even if that intention is held unconsciously. "Tender recalls" thus open onto "Prospective futures"—a space where the personal might inform the collective, gently raising awareness and understanding of each other.

Chi L. Nguyễn | チ・L・グェン (b.1992, Hanoi, Vietnam) .l.nguyen
Chi L. Nguyễn (Nguyễn Linh Chi, b. 1992) is a visual artist based in Hanoi, Vietnam. Chi graduated from BTEC Art & Design at Castle College Nottingham, then earned a BA in Illustration from Camberwell College of Arts - University of the Arts London. Her works often explore spaces and states in-between contradictions, the interrelation of nature / human / spirituality, and familial narratives. Chi works across drawing, painting, installation, interdisciplinary and research-based projects.

Zai Nomura | 野村 在 (b.1979, Kobe, Japan / New York, USA)
Zai Nomura received his PhD in Fine Arts from Musashino University, Tokyo, after being awarded an MFA from Goldsmiths, University of London. Both the death of a close family member with a disability, and the 1995 Kobe earthquake—which occurred in his early life—have led him to question the permanence of matter and existence, ultimately informing his creative practice. Recent exhibitions include the 13th Seoul City Biennale, Seoul city museum; 17th Shiseido art egg, Shiseido Gallery, Tokyo; TOKAS OPEN SITE 8, TOKAS Hongo, Tokyo; 888 Japan Society Gallery, New York; and the Aichi International Triennial. From 2019 through 2021, Nomura received a grant from the Japanese Agency for Cultural Affairs and participated in the artist-in-residency program at ISCP (International Studio and Curatorial Program) in New York.

Currently based between Vietnam and France, Mary was previously part of the curatorial team at Sàn Art, a leading contemporary arts organisation in Vietnam, from 2018 to 2025. In addition to her ongoing interests in experimental cinema, video art, q***r performance, and DIY practices, Mary is interested in developing new networks of support and collaboration between independent art spaces in the region. Aside from her exhibition work, she has also co-curated 'Saigon Experimental Film Festival' editions III and IV (2020 and 2022) and been involved in a variety of residency projects including A. Farm (2018-2020), Times & Realities (2021), Sàn Art Studio (2021-), Ecologies of Water (2023-).
