SRINAGAR — In a major political proposition, Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Friday suggested that all local political factions temporarily suspend their party identities. He called for the launch of a unified, collective democratic movement to fight for the restoration of the region's constitutional rights and protections that were dismantled in 2019.
Speaking at an event, Abdullah emphasized his willingness to make deep personal sacrifices for the sake of the cause.
If everyone is sincere, let us suspend political parties and stand together on one movement platform. We should fight democratically and peacefully until the constitutional rights and protections taken away in 2019 are restored. I will be the first one to resign. Let representatives come from a common movement platform."

The Chief Minister's statements come amid mounting internal and opposition pressure regarding the limited powers of the elected government under J&K's current Union Territory status. His own party, the National Conference (NC), recently announced plans to stage protests in New Delhi on the first day of the Parliament's upcoming monsoon session to demand the return of full Statehood.

Don't Fool People With One-Day Guarantees": MP Ruhullah Mehdi
Demands Real Movement for J&K Rights
J&K Statehood Fight Needs Sincerity, Not Optics
Ready to Resign if Unified Platform Formed for J&K Rights
Senior National Conference leader and SrinagarMember of Parliament (MP), Syed Aga Ruhullah Mehdi, stated on Thursday that any political struggle aimed at restoring Jammu and Kashmir’s statehood and constitutional guarantees must be anchored in "consistency and credibility" rather than "theatrics or optics."
The condition is that there should be sustainability and consistency. If there is no consistency, then there will be theatrics," Mehdi asserted.

PAHALGAM — A tragic incident cast a shadow over a family's weekend leisure trip on Sunday, as a 42-year-old man from Srinagar went missing and is feared dead after jumping into the fast-flowing Lidder River to rescue his son.
According to local authorities, Mohammad Ashraf Mir, a resident of Jawahar Nagar, Srinagar, who worked as an air-conditioner mechanic in the private sector, had traveled to the famous tourist resort of Pahalgam with his family for a vacation.
The incident occurred near the Langanbal area close to the Kolahoi Green Hotel. The family was reportedly taking photographs along the scenic banks of the river when Mir's son, Fahad, accidentally lost his footing and slipped into the strong, rapid currents of the stream.
Witnessing his son being swept away, Mohammad Ashraf Mir immediately dived into the river in a desperate attempt to pull him to safety. While alert locals and bystanders managed to quickly intervene and successfully rescue the young boy, Mir lost his footing against the powerful current and was carried downstream.
A massive search and rescue operation was launched immediately by the local administration. Teams from the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), alongside local rafters and volunteers, have been deployed to scour the river. Search efforts are actively continuing to trace the missing man.
