Our mission is to provide quality music education for children and adults, to strive for excellence while focusing on enjoyment, to train both recreational and professional musicians and to foster a love of music in both. Founded in 1979 to provide much needed music school facilities in south Dublin, Newpark Music Centre now caters for over 1000 students and is one of the largest private music schools in Dublin. While the emphasis is on learning music for enjoyment, students and choirs from the Music Centre have been extremely successful in competitions throughout the country. All exam syllabuses are covered up to and including diploma level and several specialised courses not available in other music schools are offered. As a founder member of the International Association of Schools of Jazz (IASJ), Newpark Music Centre established its Jazz and Contemporary Music Department in 1986 and is now recognised as the primary centre for jazz and jazz related music education in the country. The staff is drawn from the finest performers and teachers from Ireland and abroad, ensuring that students are constantly kept up to date with the latest musical techniques, concepts and trends. Newpark Festival: Beyond the Competition

We invite violinists of all ages and abilities to Mia Cooper's String Workshop on Wednesday, 17th February, 2027.

This will be a group workshop where you will learn tips and tricks to heighten your musical storytelling skills.

Mia will be using simple melodies to demonstrate how to use string techniques to express yourself, tell a story and bring your audience in.

Newpark Festival 2027 is delighted to introduce our Jazz Competition Adjudicator, Linley Hamilton!

For the very first time, Newpark Festival welcomes Jazz competitions to the stage!

Linley Hamilton is a trumpeter, composer and broadcaster that has been a leading voice on the Irish jazz scene for over three decades. Balancing an international performing career with work as a BBC jazz broadcaster and university lecturer, he has released six acclaimed albums; from Taylor Made (2010) through to Ginger's Hollow (2023), featuring Adam Nussbaum and Mark Egan.

Following a First Class Masters and a PhD in Jazz Performance, Linley joined Ulster University as a lecturer, while continuing to perform widely. H has headlined the Cork Jazz Festival with his ambitious 'Making Other Arrangements' mini-big band with strings, toured Ireland with his quintet, and appeared recently at London's Pizza Express Soho and 606 Club.

In 2019, Linley and his wife Maggie founded their own venue, Magy's Farm, which has since hosted more than 100 concerts featuring international artists including Larry Goldings Trio, Ari Hoenig, Enemy, Eddie Henderson and Joe Webb Trio. In recognition of his contribution to jazz, Linley was awarded an MBE in 2024.

Meet the Adjudicators- String Competitions

Meet Lynda O'Connor, our Strings Competition Adjudicator for Newpark Festival 2027.

Lynda O'Connor is one of the finest Irish violinists of her generation. She made her début appearance at the National Concert Hall, Dublin when she was just four years old. Subsequently, Lynda has enjoyed a busy performing career throughout Ireland, Europe, Asia and the USA.

Lynda's soloist career features many memorable performances including Mozart Sinfonie Concertante with Nobuko Imai and Bach Double Violin Concerto with Chee Yun Kim, alongside Camerata Ireland. In 2016, she performed as a soloist with Giles Apape and the International Mahler Orchestra at a Menhuin Tribute concert in Frankfurt. In 2024 Lynda was invited to perform for Prince Albert of Monaco. More recent performances include Tchaikovsky, Saint-Saens, Simfonua, Dublin Orchestral Players, Greystones Orchestra and the Orchestra of Ireland.

In May 2024, Lynda made herdebut as a Naxos recording artist with the release of the album Folk Tales 2, alongside cellist Gerals Peregrine and pianist Antony Ingham. On Augusst 2nd of 2026, Lynda's debut solo album The Irish Seasons was released by AVIE Records with a recording of Vivaldi's "Four Seasons" and a new commission by Irish Composer Aibhe McDonagh, "The Irish Four Seasons,' produced by multi-Grammy Award Winner, Judith Sherman.

Lynda performs on a Gand and Bernardel violin from 1891.

Ava Ridge is a classical ianist from Navan, Co. Meath, crrently pursuing her fourth year of Bachelor's studies at the Royal Irish Academy of Music under Professor Réamonn Keary.

She is a prize winner at competitions such as the Feis Ceoil and Navan Choral Festival and has performed at venues including the Whyte Recital Hall in Dublin and St. Peter's Church Drogheda. Ava learned through masterclasses with Daniel Grimwood and Ruth McGinley.

Beyond performig, she is passionate about teacing students of all ages, committed to. excellence in both her artistic and educational endeavors.

Festival 2027: Meet our Wind and Brass and Chamber Music Adjudicator, Ciarán O'Connell.

Please read below to learn more about Ciarán!

Ciarán O'Connell is a lecturer in flute performance at TU Dublin Conservatoire.

In the early part of his career, he was a very busy freelance flute player, playing regularly with the NSO, RTÉCO ICO and in pit orchestras for any musical theatre and opera productions in Dublin theatres. He has performed in various orchestras and chamber ensembles throughout Ireland, and in Germany, France, UK and USA.

Ciarán has a passion for teaching, his students range from beginners through to Masters level, and is regularly invited to adjudicate and examine at music festivals and schools throughout the country.

From the early stages of his flute playing, Ciarán has had a love of chamber music and has played in duos with guitar, harp, along in wind quintets. Additionally, for many years he has played with the organist Siobhán Kilkelly.

Performances include Kilkenny Arts Festival, the NCH, Áras an Uachtaráin and flute and organ recitals in Dún Laoghaire, Galway, Limerick, Tullamore, Saint Mary's Pro-cathedra, the Unitarian Church, Saint Stephen's The Peppercanister and Summer Music Sandford.

Ciarán is delighted to be invited to adjudicate at the next Newpark Festival.

Meet the Concerto and Repertoire Adjudicator: Mia Cooper.

The Newpark Festival is very excited to introduce the adjudicators for Festival 2027!

This is Mia Cooper, the adjudicator for our Concerto and Repertoire Competitions.

Please read below to learn more about Mia:

Mia studied at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester with Yossi Zivoni, and completed her studies at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique in Paris.

After graduating Mia joined the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, then the City of London Sinfonia, and has since been in demand as a guest leader with orchestras at home and abroad.

Mia joined the RTE Concert Orchestra as Leader in 2006, and in the same year joined the violin faculty at the Royal Irish Academy of Music. Teaching and chamber music are equal passions and with the Esposito quartet, Mia undertakes annual national tours aided by the National String Quartet Foundation.

Alena Stejskalová is a piano teacher with eight years of teaching experience. She studied Piano Performance and Piano Pedagogy at the Brno Conservatoire and the Czech Budweis Conservatoire. She was awarded the Licentiate of the Royal Irish Academy of Music in Dublin.

Alena has experience teaching students of different ages and abilities, preparing them for examinations and helping them develop their technical skills, musicality, sight-reading and confidence. Her teaching approach combines a strong technical foundation with an emphasis on musical expression, individual progress and enjoyment of learning.

She aims to create a supportive and encouraging environment in which each student can develop their potential and build a lasting appreciation for music.

After a brief hiatus from the Newpark Festival, the Chamber Music category is BACK at festival 2027!

Musician groups of no more than 9 people are invited to compete in the following competitions in the Chamber Music Competitions:

Chamber Music - 15 Years and Under
Chamber Music - 16 Years and Over

These competitions are open to all combinations of instrumental and vocal performers, including duos (e.g. piano and voice, piano and another instrument, or other instrumental duets including piano duets).

MEET THE TEACHERS!

Meet Aoife, our trumpet and piano tutor! She offers lessons on Mondays and Thursdays and have some open spaces available for lessons with students!

Read below to get to know Aoife!

Aoife O'Donovan is a Dublin-based trumpeter, pianist, composer and music educator. They hold a First Class Honours BMus from the Royal Irish Acadmey of Music, as well as a Diploma in music Pedagogy. They studied piano with Colma Bríoscú and Conor Linehan, trumpet with James Kavanagh, Colm Byrne and Darren Moore, and music pedagogy with Gráinne Deery.

As a performer, Aoife works across contemporary, classical and chamber music. They are a member of Outside the Lines Contemporary Music Collective and the Irish Composers' Collective, and regularly performs with Dublin Concert Band and TU Dublin Philharmonic, alongside various chamber and collaborative projects. They have a particular passion for contemporary music and exploring the possibilities of the trumpet as an instrument.

Aoife is also an active composer, with their work exploring contemporary and experimental music, interdisciplinary collaboration and new approaches to live performance. They received Music Network funding in 2026 and were awarded the Christy Nolan Arts and Disability Award in 2025 for their artistic practice.

Aoife has been teaching music since 2019, working with students from beginner level through Grade 8 and beyond. Aoife enjoys helping students develop strong technical and musical foundations while encouraging creativity, confidence and a genuine enjoyment of making music. They aim to create a supportive learning environment where students can develop their own musical interests and individuality.
