Suddenly, we are at that time of year when the garden is throwing out flowers, leaves are filling spaces, and blue t**s are nesting (in my birdbox! ).Also, the proper start of the wedding season. It is so lovely to be able to complement floral designs with a garden or local, just picked lovelies.
But a few words of caution if picking yourself:
I leave stems with leaves that feel soft as they will just wilt in a vase. Wait a few days or so until they feel firmer and choose an evergreen foliage right now..
I try to pick a flower out of the hotest or sunniest part of the day
I am leaving cow parsley for another week or so to harden up before cutting.
I like to test a flower by leaving overnight with stems in a bucket of water. Generally, if it survives the night it will be good to go in a design!
That's me in the garden getting out the watering can for a few tubs as we have not had rain for a while now.
