An Evening With Dean Saunders & Andy Townsend

Two of the best football speakers on the circuit will be with us on Friday 24th July!

Dean Saunders was a prolific striker who most famously played for Liverpool and Aston Villa and was also one of the most capped Welsh international players. He has gone on to to be a high profile pundit on both Talksport and BT Sports.

Andy Townsend has played for both Chelsea and Aston Villa in the Premier League and played seventy times for the Republic of Ireland. Since his playing days he went on to commentate for ITV, Talksport and CBS Sport.

The night will be compared by Phil King and tickets are bound to sell fast for this one!

✍️We are delighted to announce that Alfie Kelleher has re-signed for Paulton Rovers.

Alfie came through the Development Centre at the club before becoming a regular in the Under 18s. After some impressive performances at left-back, he made his senior debut in the 2025/26 season featuring in fourteen games (with eleven victories) and scoring his first senior goal before signing for Wells City.

Alfie returned to play for the Under 18s and joined the Paulton Rovers Sports squad becoming part of the team that were crowned champions of the Uhlsport Somerset County League Division Two.

We are very pleased to confirm that Jack Dancey will remain at Paulton Rovers!

Jack signed from Mangotsfield in 2022 having previously played for Keynsham Town and Larkhall Athletic and is a versatile central defender or midfielder. He quickly established his place as a first choice defender in that first season and became club captain the following year.

Working alongside Martin Lenihan and John Rendell, he played a huge part in our push for promotion in the final weeks of last season and is a firm supporter favourite!

✍️We are pleased to confirm that Billy Padfield is staying with us for the 2026/27 season. Billy joined the squad from Bristol Telephones for the 2024/25 season and after a frustrating early season injury, quickly established himself as the first choice right back.

Retained by Kieran Baggs last year, Billy was made club captain but again suffered an early injury that effectively ended his season. That didn’t prevent him from joining the squad each week offering great support for the lads.

🗣️Assistant manager, Martin Lenihan, says: “We did everything to keep him from leaving to go to Southern League opposition last season. Unfortunately his recurring shoulder injury has meant he’s had a frustrating season on the sidelines but looks forward to bouncing back this season with us after successful surgery!”

✍️Ok, Ok... We know you know about this already but it’s such good news we thought we’d share it again!

What can we say about our captain?! One of the most popular players in the area, Martin rejoined Paulton in 2022 after signing from Frome Town. He had already come through the youth system at Paulton before gaining Southern League experience at Frome. After a spell away from Paulton, he helped Yate Town gain promotion to the Southern League Premier Division before returning to Paulton last season.

With the sudden departure of Kieran Baggs with six weeks of last season to go, Martin and Jack Dancey, assisted by John Rendell took over the management and masterminded eight league victories, one draw and just one defeat in the run-in. The run left the club in a play-off position and two further memorable victories against Clevedon Town and Sidmouth Town sent us back to The Southern League!

Martin will remain as club captain and as John Rendell’s assistant manager.

✍️We are pleased to announce the signing of Tom Beeson!

Tom is an attacking midfielder who currently plays for Bath University, where he won both the Manager’s Player of the Season and the Players’ Player of the Season awards last year. He was also the first-team top scorer and captained the side in the Varsity Match.

He has represented Yeovil Town at youth level and also Sherborne FC in the Wessex League Premier Division.

🗣️Manager, John Rendell says: “I’m really looking forward to working with Tom this season. He is able to play right across the midfield which fits in with what we need at the club and in my chats with him I have been struck by his drive and ambition to play at higher levels of the game.”

✍️Please welcome Archie Matthews to Paulton Rovers!

Although only 24, Archie comes with a wealth of goalkeeping experience across the board! He hails from the youth system at Swindon Town where he had loan spells with AFC Totton, Thatcham Town and Melksham Town before making his Football League debut for Swindon in 2021.

Further experience was gained when signing for Birmingham City with loans at Bath City, Gloucester City and ourselves when he played for John Rendell in a brief spell in 2022.

Since that time he signed for Swansea City with further spells at Penybont in the Welsh Premier league and Wealdstone.

🗣️John Rendell says: “We are incredibly pleased to get Archie to the club. He has played for me before so I know just how good he is and his professional level experience will be invaluable to us as we progress into the Southern League.”

✍️ We are excited to announce that Brandon Bak has committed to the club for the 2026/27 season!

Brandon came into the squad on loan from Weston-super-Mare in the latter stages of last season; scoring nine goals in eight appearances and helping to secure our promotion to the Southern League.

Before re-joining last season, he had a spell with us in 2023 on loan from Bristol City scoring in his debut against Bishops Cleeve. Since that time he signed for Weston-super-Mare and had loan spells with Bristol Manor Farm, scoring eight goals, and Mangotsfield where he scored five.

🗣️Manager, John Rendell, had this to say: “We are delighted that Brandon has decided to commit to Paulton Rovers! He rightly had interest from a number of clubs after his excellent spell with us so we are particularly pleased he has decided to stay with us to continue his career as we go forward into step 4. It’s a good move for both the club and Brandon.”

We’d like to thank Scott Rogers of Weston-super-Mare for his help with Brandon’s signing.

Ever since our amazing play-off final day just over two weeks ago, work has not stopped behind the scenes. John Rendell and Martin Lenihan have been busy meeting with the board, arranging our pre-season schedule and lots of talks with players!

🎯The Paulton Rovers Darts Open will take place on 23rd May at Paulton Rovers!

The competition will be played using our new nine board setup in the Francis Suite and is guaranteed to be a great day of darts!

•£10 Pre-entry required
•Limited to 64 entries
•Doors open @ 10am, registration closes @ 11.30am
•‘Toe the oche’ @ 12pm
•Round Robin format with prize for group winners
