‼️👻NEW TO HAUNTED MOMENTS PARANORMAL EVENTS👻‼️
SHREWSBURY PRISON
First opened in 1793 and later rebuilt and expanded in 1877, the prison was originally designed with harsh discipline in mind. The site featured isolated cells, heavy iron doors, exercise yards and strict segregation intended to break the spirit of inmates. The atmosphere inside was deliberately intimidating, and over the centuries thousands of prisoners passed through its gates. One of the darkest chapters in Shrewsbury Prison’s history involves ex*****ons. Public hangings once took place outside the prison walls, attracting huge crowds. The final public ex*****on connected to the prison happened in 1868. Later ex*****ons took place privately inside the prison itself. Between 1902 and 1961 several prisoners were executed by hanging within the prison.
Adding to the prison’s eerie reputation is the discovery that many executed prisoners were buried in unmarked graves within the grounds. During redevelopment work in the 1970s, remains from several executed inmates were uncovered. These helped fuel rumours that the prison was haunted long before it became a tourist attraction.
Today, Shrewsbury Prison is widely considered one of the most haunted locations in the UK. Paranormal investigators, former guards, visitors and ghost hunters have all reported strange experiences inside the abandoned wings. Common reports include unexplained footsteps, cell doors slamming shut on their own, cold spots, whispers and sightings of shadowy figures.
