Slightly lame post, but I wanted to take a moment to mention something. After working in the hospitality industry for the last 10 years, struggling to juggle it around this music thing with the late shifts, long hours, and social demands, I am super happy to have started a new venture yesterday in an office working 9-5 Monday-Friday. It feels incredibly strange to even be celebrating that, as like a lot of my fellow creatives on here, my aim is to get to a point where I can afford to solely do music. I don’t really have any desire to work in an office. However, I’ve NEVER had a job where you didn’t have to work weekends, so right now I’m feeling very relieved🥹. As a neurodivergent babe, sticking at hospitality just because it was what I knew, was slowly killing me off. Coming back from playing a show over the weekend, to having to put on this extroverted front for people as their server, was taking SO much from me that by the time I decided to quit my job in January, I had become a complete shell of myself. It’s been a challenging start to the year for sure, but things finally feel like they’re starting to make sense. All I want is the mental space and physical energy to be able to put as much into Spectral as I need to in order to make this a reality for me. I feel strongly that stepping into a stereotypically “boring” day job will help me to do that, and will pay off in the long run😇. If you read this far, I appreciate you. I always like to keep it real with you guys, and I’m sure there’s so many of you that follow me that are also figuring out a way to pursue a dream and still be financially stable. Nothing worth having happens overnight, so in the meantime it’s about finding what works for you, and setting up your life so that you can create space for the things you want to arrive. It's so easy to create a persona online whereby you can make people think you’re past working a day job,but there’s no shame in living in the reality of day to day life. I’m not a celebrity, nor do I have any desire to be, but I’m slowly growing closer to a world where music may one day pay all of my bills. Big up anyone else making sacrifices for their art, I SEE YOU!!!😊❤️
