APOLOGY: Culture Creative sincerely apologises to Maatakitj (Professor Clint Bracknell) and the Nyoongar community for our use of his track Yornan (Dance Mix) at the 2026 Lightscape event in Perth without first engaging with him to understand the cultural context.

While the use of Yornan (Dance Mix) was covered under our OneMusic licence, we acknowledge that, as a matter of best practice, we should have separately engaged with Maatakitj before using the track at the event. That was not the appropriate way to engage with Indigenous cultural material, and we are deeply sorry.

We are committed to learning from this and ensuring our practices reflect the responsibilities that accompany Indigenous Cultural and Intellectual Property.

Maatakitj is a Nyoongar song-maker whose music carries and revitalises Nyoongar language and embodies cultural knowledge, identity and connection beyond the music itself. We encourage anyone who encountered Yornan at Lightscape to seek out Maatakitj’s music and experience it in context.

Maatakitj and the Nyoongar community have no association with Culture Creative or the event's sponsors.

📣It's the last weekend of LIGHTSCAPE in Melbourne at Royal Botanic Gardens Victoria
And, the last chance to see one of this year's most memorable new commissions - iilk (eel) by Melbourne-based multidisciplinary artist Jarra Karalinar Steel. A 20m-long inflatable manufactured by UK-based Designs in Air . LIGHTSCAPE closes 2 Aug.

Huge thanks to the Volunteering and Conservation team at Northumberland Coast National Landscape for a great day at Bamburgh Beach yesterday. Our team swopped the office, for a day of volunteering which included a beach clean, removing nurdles from the sand, and pulling out some Pirri Pirri plants - an invasive species with sticky burrs that grow in the dunes.

We also had time for an ice cream and a paddle in the sunshine. ☀️

The conservation team do an incredible job of conserving and enhancing the natural beauty of the Northumberland Coast National Landscape and it was great to spend time with them and learn more about the important work they do year-round.

LIGHTSCAPE in Melbourne opened at the weekend, showcasing incredible new artworks from First Peoples, Australian, and international artists. Royal Botanic Gardens Victoria has already won two consecutive Golds at the Victorian Tourism Awards for previous LIGHTSCAPE trails, and this year's trail is definitely a worthy contender ⭐

Huge thanks to all the artists, our Australian team and everyone involved. Runs until 2 August.
