Alberta had a choice that could have set Canada on a path toward breaking apart. Instead, Albertans delivered a resounding vote of confidence in their country.

With millions of ballots counted, roughly 77% voted to remain in Canada, compared with just 23% who wanted to begin the process toward a future independence referendum.

That's a margin of more than THREE TO ONE, delivered in a province separatists had spent months portraying as ready to walk away.

For months, Canadians watched as separatist rhetoric grew louder, American politicians entertained the prospect of a fractured Canada, and Donald Trump's threats against our sovereignty tested the country's resolve.

But when the decision was finally placed in the hands of Albertans, the answer was overwhelming.

Prime Minister Mark Carney, himself an Albertan, captured the moment: "Above all, Albertans chose Canada."

There will always be disagreements between Ottawa and the provinces, and Alberta has legitimate concerns that deserve attention. But this is a moment worth celebrating across the entire country.

Because when it mattered most, Albertans stood up for Canada. And today, 40 million Canadians have another reason to be proud of the country we share.

In 1907 Rauhala was crown granted to a man named Emil Takala. This here is the only piece dating to a later period other than 1904 it is dated to 1907, the year Emil Takala was crown granted Rauhala. At the top of the page is a signature, E. Takala.
