Light and shadow are what bring a still life to life! There’s something so beautiful about studying how light falls across an object, where the highlights appear, and how the shadows create form, depth, and dimension.

In this Lemons & Figs study, the shading and highlights do so much of the storytelling. It’s not just about painting the fruit; it’s about understanding the light source, observing the values, and using those contrasts to make each subject feel three-dimensional.

We just wrapped up a 2-day workshop focused on creating this large-scale storm wave! 🌊

Getting the depth just right inside the barrel was definitely the most challenging part, but I think these turned out amazing!

A huge thank-you to everyone who joined the class, put in the work, and helped make this workshop such a great experience. I loved seeing what everyone created!
