Most couples ask an officiant three questions before booking: are you available, how much, and can you do sunset.
After twenty years of marrying couples in Nassau, I can tell you the question that actually matters is none of those.
It's this: "Are you currently authorized to solemnize legal marriages in The Bahamas?"
A pastor is not automatically authorized. Neither is a celebrant, a planner, or a friend who speaks beautifully. If the person conducting the legal portion of your ceremony doesn't hold that authority, you have had a lovely afternoon β not a marriage.
I've written out all fifteen questions I'd ask if I were hiring an officiant, and then answered every one of them myself, so you can see what a straight answer sounds like.
