𓂃 THE LIVER — THE GREAT ALCHEMIST 𓂃
If the heart is the valve, and the lungs are the pump, and the stomach is the furnace, and the intestines are the river… then the liver is the great alchemist.

The heart keeps life moving. The lungs draw breath through the body. The stomach receives the meal and begins the fire of digestion. The intestines become the inner river, absorbing nourishment and carrying it across the threshold.

And then, the river delivers its gifts to the liver. This is where the body begins another kind of work. Not just digestion—transformation.

The liver receives what has been absorbed and begins to sort, convert, store, filter, neutralise, package, and release. It asks:

What can be used? What must be changed? What needs to be stored? What must be cleared? What needs to leave through bile, bowel, blood, or urine?

The liver is more than a cleaner. It is a chemist. A processor. A protector. A quiet guardian of the inner terrain. It works tirelessly with fats, sugars, proteins, hormones, nutrients, and environmental burdens—quietly, constantly, and faithfully.

✦ THE LIVER AND FOOD ✦
The liver listens to what comes through the intestinal river. Every meal brings information, not just calories.

Is this food recognisable? Is it whole? Is it chemical? Is it asking the body to work harder than it needs to?

The liver does not complain loudly at first, but when the burden becomes too heavy, the body begins to speak through subtle signals:

Chronic tiredness & heaviness

Skin flare-ups & sluggish digestion

Hormonal imbalance & brain fog

Irritability or nausea around rich foods

Heightened sensitivity to smells, chemicals, or additives

These are not failures; they are signals. The great alchemist is asking for support.

✦ FOODS THAT SUPPORT THE ALCHEMIST ✦
The liver responds beautifully to foods that are simple, bitter, mineral-rich, colourful, and clean. These foods do not force the liver; they support its natural rhythm and remind the body: you do not have to carry everything alone.

Bring in the vibrant and the bitter:

Bitter Greens: Rocket, dandelion greens, parsley, and coriander

Earth & Roots: Beetroot and carrots

Cruciferous Support: Broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage, and Brussels sprouts

Clean Movement: Lemon, garlic, turmeric, ginger, artichoke, celery, zucchini, and pumpkin

Pure Lubrication: High-quality, cold-pressed olive oil & clean water

✦ FOODS THAT MAY BURDEN THE RIVER ✦
This is not about fear; it is about relationship. The liver is incredibly generous, but it was not designed to be endlessly overloaded.

Notice what asks a little too much from your system:

Refined sugar & chemical additives

Alcohol

Highly processed foods & poor-quality oils (like refined seed oils)

Excess fried or overly rich foods

Heavy meals eaten late at night

Constant snacking without giving the system a rest

The liver does not need punishment. It needs less burden, more bitterness, more colour, and more space between the work.

✦ A LIVER-HAPPY ALCHEMIST CURRY ✦
A good curry can be a beautiful way to support the great alchemist. Not a heavy, oily, overcomplicated curry, but a warm, mineral-rich bowl made with ingredients the body instantly recognizes.

✨ The Golden Liver-Alchemist Curry Template: Pumpkin, zucchini, cauliflower, broccoli, and greens—simmered gently with ginger, turmeric, garlic, coriander, and cumin. Lightly balanced with coconut milk, fresh herbs, lemon, and a beautiful drizzle of cold-pressed olive oil right at the end.

This kind of meal brings warmth, fibre, and gentle spice. It gives the liver something useful to work with, whispering: Here is one less burden. Here is nourishment you can transform.

✦ THE EMOTIONAL LIVER ✦
Many ancient traditions connect the liver with anger, frustration, pressure, and the feeling of being overburdened. Whether we speak physically or emotionally, the message is exactly the same: too much held inside eventually asks to move.

The liver teaches transformation—not suppression, and not explosion. It asks:

Can this heat become clarity?

Can this frustration become direction?

Can this burden become a healthy boundary?

Can what has been stored finally be safely released?

Before your next meal, pause. Take one breath, soften your shoulders, and offer a small moment of gratitude to the great alchemist for the quiet, constant filtering it does for you every single day. Give it a little more green, a little more water, and a little more rest.

Next in our series: We follow the waters into the body’s sacred strainers—The Kidneys. The quiet keepers of minerals, fluids, pressure, and flow. 🌊

✦ TASTE WITHOUT BORDERS ✦
THIS WEEK WE TRAVEL TO INDONESIA 🌿
This week our kitchen has been filled with the aroma of ginger, lemongrass, fresh basil, and warming spices.
Inspired by the shared tables and rich flavours of Indonesia, we've been slowly creating a nourishing satay dish that feels both grounding and vibrant at the same time.
At the heart of this week's offering is our:
✨ Satay Vegetables with Fragrant Rice ✨
Created with:
🌿 Crispy arrowroot-coated tofu
🌿 Fresh basil
🌿 Broccoli
🌿 Carrot
🌿 Spanish onion
🌿 Seasonal vegetables
All gently folded through fragrant basmati rice and finished with our house-made satay sauce.
Made from:
🥥 Fresh coconut milk
🥜 Activated almond and cashew butter
🫚 Fresh ginger
🌾 Lemongrass
🍋 Kaffir lime zest
🫙 Tamari
🌴 Coconut nectar
The result is rich, aromatic, warming, and deeply satisfying.
✧ NOURISHMENT THROUGH UNDERSTANDING ✧ 🌿
One of the things we love most about food is that it can teach us something.
The combination of tofu and rice creates a beautifully satisfying meal while also naturally complementing one another nutritionally to provide a more complete protein profile.
Not through supplements.
Not through powders.
Simply through the way whole foods work together.
Perhaps nourishment is not only about what we eat...
But understanding how it all comes together.
Here’s another way to experience nourishment.
✧ FROM OUR FERMENTATION TABLE ✧ 🍞
Alongside this week's offering we will also have:
✨ Fermented Lentil & Millet Bread
✨ Activated Charcoal Loaf
✨ Stewed Apple, Walnut, Cinnamon & Monkfruit Loaf
Slowly fermented.
Prepared with patience.
Shared generously.
✧ CHAI & CAROB ✧ ☕🍂
Our signature chai will be brewing gently throughout the morning.
And this week's carob creations are feeling especially awe-pleantyful...
✨ PHoneycomb Crunch
A playful take on honeycomb — without the honey.
Crunchy golden pieces coated in our signature carob blend.
And introducing:
✨ Garden Mint Peppermint Slice 🍃
Created with:
🌿 zucchini
🌿 cashews
🌿 spirulina
🌿 peppermint oil
🌿 coconut oil
Cool, creamy, refreshing, and quietly vibrant.
A little like wandering through a mint garden after the rain.
Cool garden nourishment disguised as indulgence.
Warm bowls.
Fresh bread.
Slow chai.
Soft conversation.
People often rediscover what they've already discovered — they just forgot they knew it already.
📍 Find us at Murwillumbah Farmers' Market on Wednesday.
With gratitude,
Marc & Daryl
