This 60-metre sandstone retaining wall was one of the biggest landscaping jobs we’ve tackled, and after pricing up all the options, it turned out to be the most cost-effective solution.

We looked at replacing the existing timber wall with another timber wall, along with concrete sleepers and concrete block options. Surprisingly, sandstone came out on top as the most budget-friendly choice even after factoring in machinery hire.

To keep costs down, we chose a lower-grade sandstone. Not only did it save money, but it also gave us the rustic, natural look we were chasing. It meant we could avoid the expense of a strip footing and the need to get everything perfectly level.

Living on highly reactive soils, we know movement over time is almost inevitable. Rather than spending thousands trying to achieve perfection, we designed the wall with practicality in mind and embraced a finish that will still look great as the landscape settles.

With the help of some family, we completed the entire project in just three days.

A good reminder that it’s worth pricing every option before starting a major garden project. The most expensive-looking solution isn’t always the most expensive, and the cheapest assumption isn’t always the cheapest reality.

Throwback to when we got our front sign cut πŸ’₯

Rare these days to find something that’s actually better than expected. I bought this as a bottle opener and somehow it’s turned into the best little hand trowel I own. Solid, sharp and tough as nails.

Bye for now, but not forever 🀍

These are officially the final remaining opportunities to get married at Tarrawingee Farm before we temporarily close weddings while we move closer towards building our family home here on the property.

This isn’t a forever goodbye, just a pause for a new chapter.

Tarrawingee has been home to so many beautiful celebrations over the years, and before we step back for a little while, we wanted to release a handful of final dates for couples who have always dreamed of getting married here.

Once these dates are gone, Tarrawingee weddings will be on hold for the foreseeable future while we focus on what’s next for our family and this place we love so much.

We fully intend to be back one day but for now, this is the last chance to celebrate here for a while 🀍

2027 remaining dates:
β€’ April 9–11
β€’ April 16-18
β€’ May 7–9
β€’ May 14–16

Enquire via DM or via the link in bio.

I’ve added a few more plants along the garden bed beside our sandstone wall. These were spontaneous additions from Bunnings and Dippers, so they weren’t part of the original plan, but plans evolve!

Having a plan in place actually helped me make better spontaneous nursery purchases too. Instead of choosing something completely random, I was able to select plants that still worked within the overall vision rather than throwing in a total curveball.

I picked up Silver Ball Eremophila and Smokey Grey Westringia and simply worked them into spaces where I’d originally planned plants of a similar size.

Both bring a different texture and softness to the grey palette of this bed, complementing the existing planting beautifully. Having a few unexpected additions will only help create the more natural, relaxed and less structured feel I’m aiming for in this space.
