Cello or Double Bass? Which would you play? 🎻

Both ground an ensemble with lower harmonies, bass notes and solos that soar!

Both are played sat and with a similar posture. They teach you precision with your fretting fingers and bowing hand, and train your ear to stay in-tune.

And both can be played in countless ways and styles- having a rich history in the Classical World - and are right at home in the Contemporary, Jazz, Pop & Screen music of today!

From "Pirates of the Caribbean", to Bach's "Cello Suites", and so much more in all genres. 🎶

This concert presents an eclectic mix of music from various cultures and genres. The band takes the audience on a musical journey, beginning with a lively Swedish contemporary folk cover of Väsen, followed by a sultry French gypsy bossa. The band also showcases their ability to weave together traditional and contemporary sounds, with a Swedish traditional wedding polska. Presented in association with Musica Viva Australia as part of the Grafton Jacaranda Festival.

Applications are now being invited for Clarence Valley Conservatorium’s 2027 Scholarship Auditions.

Our scholarship program supports local musicians to continue developing their skills, build confidence in performance and take the next step in their musical journey.

Scholarships are open to students across a range of instruments and voice, with applicants invited to present a short audition for our panel.

There's a million reasons you'd want to play brass...

🎺 That sound of a sweeping section, muted trumpet jazz solo, bouncy classical line or single French horn call are unmistakable.

👂 Your ear as a brass player will be trained to match pitch with your peers, pick out new music by ear, and hear the music around you in even more detail.

👥 Few instruments are as collaborative by nature as the brass family - being part of a concert band, jazz trio, orchestra or contemporary act are par for the course and you'll never have to perform alone (unless that's your thing!)

💨 We breathe all day, but the control you'll have over your breath will be unmatched with benefits beyond just your music.

And that's just the cliff notes!
