Adelaide’s pedigree for hosting world-class motorsport is unrivalled in Australia.

Today, the South Australian capital hosts Austarlia’s largest domestic motorsport event - the Superloop Adelaide 500 - widely regarded as one of the top touring car races in the world.

But cars have been tearing up the tarmac in Adelaide for decades.

Formula One heritage From 1985-1995, Adelaide was the home of the FIA Formula One World Championship’s Australian Grand Prix, and saw memorable moments like Nigel Mansell’s tyre-blowing loss of the championship in 1986, Thierry Boutsen’s rain-soaked win in 1989, the 14-lap event won by the legendary Ayrton Senna in the monsoonal 1991 race, and classic clashes between Mansell and Senna (in 1992) and the championship-deciding collision between Damon Hill and a young Michael Schumacher in 1994.
